acts_as_solr under ApacheI've really been thinking about moving the acts_as_solr plugin to be
under apache's license and repository because I don't have much time to be working on it anymore and I don't want to be holding it's development off. Let me know your thoughts. -- Thiago Jackiw |

Thiago - I can certainly sympathize with your position. I have always felt that acts_as_solr belonged as part of solr-ruby. We do need a committed few folks that are willing to take responsibility for bringing it into Apache, which involves not just committing code but ensuring the legalities of it as far as an official code donation. It also involves figuring out how to distribute releases, publish RDocs, and all that good stuff that I've thus far neglected with solr-ruby (other than posting gem's to rubyforge). Thiago - can you commit to helping with the (potential) transition? As for my involvement - it will be August before I'm free and clear enough to devote much more than a few minutes here and there to it. Erik |

Re: acts_as_solr under ApacheErik,
I'll be more than happy to help you with the transaction, and by moving it to Apache doesn't mean that I won't be helping with the development from time to time, I just don't have all the free time I had before to dedicate to its development. Let me know what I need to do for the transaction. -- Thiago Jackiw On 7/10/07, Erik Hatcher <erik@...> wrote: > > On Jul 9, 2007, at 1:38 PM, Thiago Jackiw wrote: > > I've really been thinking about moving the acts_as_solr plugin to be > > under apache's license and repository because I don't have much time > > to be working on it anymore and I don't want to be holding it's > > development off. > > > > Let me know your thoughts. > > Thiago - I can certainly sympathize with your position. Thiago - first, we need to follow Apache procedures regarding software grants: <http://www.apache.org/licenses/#grants> This entails us getting approval from the Lucene PMC to bring this code in. What we need to demonstrate is a viable community. So while I understand your situation of not having time, its best not to use that verbiage when trying to bring code to Apache. What we want is a healthy community, not a dumping ground of code for folks without enough time. I recommend you bring this topic up to your acts_as_solr e-mail list and have the folks interested in the future of that plugin to join this e-mail list and show support for this move. Again, I'm out of commission for a couple more weeks but can get back into this in more detail soon. Erik |
