airport with wpa

I've been searching for awhile and it seems that the original airport card does not have a linux driver that supports wpa. Just wanted to confirm that this is true. If so, I guess I'll have to switch my wireless network to WEP.

Thanks,
Bob

The original Apple AirPort Card (Hermes/Agere based) is supported by the
orinoco driver in mainline kernels.

This driver received WPA support (currently WPA1+TKIP only) in kernel
2.6.28-rc1.  Firmware is required to be provided, see
http://wiki.debian.org/orinoco for further details.

Looks like I'll probably just continue to use WEP until Lenny or the next stable release uses the proper kernel. Otherwise, I'll have to pin the kernel down. Also, the wiki didn't mention anything about network-manager which is what I would like to use for network connections, I could use /network/interfaces but my wife uses the laptop as well. So, I rely on network-manager. Thanks for the instructions.

It's the original Airport (Hermes I) in an iBook G3.

You can use a backported 2.6.30 kernel image package via backports.org, as
described in the procedure.  These packages are already pinned to 1 by use of
"NotAutomatic: yes" in the repository's Release files.

The procedure links to http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse where appropriate,
where wireless interface configuration using NetworkManager is described.
There is nothing specific to the orinoco driver in this regard.
