alcCaptureCloseDevice crashes when device is disconnected

Hi. Vista32, MacBook Pro. I plug something in my microphone input. This
adds up a device inside OpenAL. I start my OpenAL software. I start capturing. I remove the microphone. Whenever I try to “alcCaptureCloseDevice”,
it freezes. Q is simple: Can I “forget” to
alcCaptureCloseDevice in order to make everything work? It doesn’t seem
to have any real adverse effects. Or maybe there is a way to detect the device
