alsa in kernal 2.6.21.2-686

I have run alsaconf  but I find rthat the update modules common is depreciated.

I looked at infomod soundcore


fond that  in /lib/modules/2.6.21-2.686/kernel/sound/sound.ko

but under the heading

vermagic 2.6.21-2.686 SMP mod_unload 686

what does this mean

I cannot get audio at the end of the day

What happens if you run the command "udevtrigger" (as root) right after
you run alsaconf? Can you run "alsamixer" after that? If not, what is
the error message?
