amd 785g chipset and 2009.1/2010

I'm building a home entertainment system and I'm looking at buying one
of two Gigabyte boards (either the GA-MA785GMT-UD2H, or the
GA-MA785GPM-UD2H) for it.  Both these boards implement the AMD 785g chip
set.  I've found a couple of descriptions on the web: this thread for
one (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=618289) What I'd like to
know is how well will these boards work with Mandriva?  Can I use the
on-board graphics or will I need to buy an additional NVIDIA graphics card?

Thank you in advance,
Arnold

I'd have to ask why use any Radeon (except maybe the now-defunct All-
in-Wonder), onboard or otherwise for a media centre (I'm assuming
you're including video and HDTV here).

The general consensus is that for Linux media centres, for example
MythTV, nVidia provides the only real solution, and if you want a
decent lifespan, look for any VDPAU - capable card:

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/VDPAU

This feature is currently available in the trunk release, and will be
included in the upcoming 0.22 release.

There is also a fixable issue with MythTV and the powersaving features
of the AMD's, whereby the processor steps down too far to be able to
decode HD.

Thank you for the advice and the link.  I'm looking at it now.
