That would be a no.  I just discovered that the id onthe sequences, sections and groups are limited to 3 chars.  Do your accountants not set the gifi codes in perp Nathan?

Nobody tells me nothing.  I've never even heard of these before now,
but it's nice to know.

Changed in SVN r3762, let me know if that works for you.  It didn't
look like there were GIFI codes for the sequences (Assets, Expenses,
etc), so I didn't change those.

When you get your Chart of Accounts set up, could you dump the 4
tables perp_sequence, perp_account_section, perp_account_group,
perp_account and send it in?

I'll put it up for others feeling lazy :-)

Ni Nathan,

I have decided to do my own accounting for this year (and last) in order to really understand the needs for PERP in relation to my little law office system I have created.

I am still trying to understand how sequences, sections and groups relate to the managing of the financial data and the benefit it will be later.

I do not plan to load all the GIFI codes.  Sorry I do not have time.  I will only be loading the ones my business used last year then I will ad more as I need them.

From my deductive learning it would appear the groups and accounts would only use the GiFI codes.  The codes are set up so the Group code ends in a 0 but it also represents an account as well.  "8710 Interest and Bank Charges"   "8715 Bank Charges" is a child of 8710 specifically labeling bank charges.  Where a child code does not describe the income of expence then it would default to the parent.  I have attached the Canadian Corprate GIFI codes for your referance.  It is hard to find it on the tax mans web site.  I started loading the parent as a group without the fouth char but I will correct that.  I did not get very far yet.

Is there any documentation about the set up of sequences, sections and groups and why and how they are used in other parts of PERP?

Thank You,

Randygifi_codes_corporate.pdf

P.S.  Once set up I will dump my accounts, groups and sections but I feel I am far from being done.  I really need to know how I will use them later in order to set them up correctly.  Will changing/adding and deleting affect transactions later?

Thanks,

Randy

http://www.projecterp.org/mediawiki/index.php/User_Administration/General_Ledger#SETTING_UP_THE_GL

Sections / Groups are used for things like income statement and
balance sheet, but they're also used as restrictions for other areas,
to make sure you're not paying staff wages out of inventory.  Wherever
used in this way, they're optional.

Maybe.  You're not allowed to delete a group that has accounts in it.
You're not allowed to delete a GL account with transactions.

You can rename at any time, but be aware that transactions reference
the name rather than copy, so they'll change as well.

Adding can be done at any time with no effect on other transactions or
GL accounts.
