backup advice

I'm using Mozzy, a ver nice, but PC only, free back up system. Can
anyone recommend such a service for the Mac?

So - it is a sad day. I've had crashes with my MBP since the day I got
it. Not a lot - but like 3-4 a week. I haven't lost anything yet...

My wife's MB crashed today. That means both Macs are dead or maybe on
the way to death. I hope this is just random bad luck and not a sign
of things to come. I know I love OSX, as does my wife.

I'm not familiar with Mozzy, so my suggestions might not be what
you're looking for at all. I use Super Duper! to backup my machines.
I know that a lot of people are happy with the backup service and
software included with .Mac. It's worth checking out.

With regard to MacBook +/- Pro crashes, I would expect to see these
quirks all ironed out soon. There are gobs of apps that need Rosetta,
and don't work quite right with a PowerPC chip.

No idea what Mozzy is or does. I use SilverKeeper on my Mac.

You should take it back to Apple. I've had just one crash with my MBP
in a month and I consider that to be unusually high. In years of
owning PowerBooks, I've probably only had half a dozen crashes tops.
The level of crashes you are experiencing is extremely unusual and
sounds like hardware problems to me.

Yeah, I think I'm fighting it just because I don't want to believe it.
Plus, if both machines are sent back (my wife's MB is having drive
trouble), then it puts an end to any code I write at night.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions folks.

Some little things can cause this to happen.  My Powerbook had
multiple crashes with no apparent cause.  Everything checked out
fine, but I suspected it was a bad stick of RAM.  Put in a new stick
and no more crashes.

For backups, I use Retrospect and back up everything to my G4
sawtooth server.  I also back up important files like photos to DVD
and put those in a safe deposit box at my bank.  If I lost 5+ years
and 15+ GB of photos I'd have to kill myself... if my wife didn't do
it first!

FWIW, I use a Maxtor OneTouch drive.  I just plug it into the firewire
port every couple of nights before I go to bed and click the button on
the enclosure -- it backs up my entire drive while I sleep.  Nothing
fancy, and obviously no benefit of over-the-network convenience/safety,
but it's simple and reliable.  I had a HDD failure on my last machine,
and this method saved me much heartache.

I agree with Sean about your crashes -- totally unacceptable and very
out of the ordinary.
