belts
I have 2 6hp yamahas, one for parts, the other is in good shape, I needed a new auger belt but the one off the parts machine is smaller ( perhaps by an inch in length) and when I put it on the one I use the auger turns all the time even when not engaged. It took a lot of muscle to get it on...My question is over the years did the belt size( lenght) change or is there some adjustment I don't know about and does anyone know where I can get a new belt

Re: belts
Can you still read the sizes printed on the belts?

Re: belts
It's possible you have the wrong belt - too small given the augers turning with the clutch not engaged.
The clutch may be adjusted for the old belt which had slackened. The new belt which is tighter would probably require the clutch being backed off.
If your clutch is backed off and the belt is still too tight then you probably need to go a size up. That should not have to happen if you have the right factory belt.
It seems like you just have the wrong belt given the struggle to get it on.

Re: belts
From my experience its impossible to find a exact size replacement belt if you don't order a factory original yamaha part. You can come really close. And close enough to get the job done.

Re: belts
Belts from yamaha run around $60 ! I tried every size out there at autopart stores. Gound the best fit for augar drive is 4L300W. You can get this at any auto parts stores for around $14. Also size A28 works too, but I like the 4L300W better. A 4L330W seems a good fit for the track drive pulley. The clutch adjustment has too little adjustment to correct for belt that is a poor fit. A belt too small cannot be adjusted for-the augur or drive will receive power all the time if the belt is too tight. There is a small amount of adjustment possible for a belt that is only a little bit loose, but not much. Only by sizing many belts did I find that these belts were the closest fit to OEM. These belts apply to the 624T
