blue 2 - Alpha available to testHi all!
I've placed an alpha build of blue 2.0.0 at: http://www.kunstmusik.com/blue.zip I'm calling it an alpha as it's not yet feature complete (while beta should be feature complete but may have bugs). If anything, it's for early testers to check it out and give it a try to get a feel for things. There's a number of known issues: -tabs render funny, as do window title bars -time render lines only show at top time bar -time log not implemented -score navigator not implemented (am looking to implement on top of tempo area) -manual not included yet (need to redo manual compilation into javahelp to have in-program manual) -OSX build not yet working (need to build on non-windows machine, will try that tomorrow on linux) -python interpreter takes longer on first run due to increased number of jars on classpath (am planning to to kick-off a python initializer in a thread after program starts in background) I think you may be able to test this build with OSX by running the blue\bin\blue script. blue.exe in that bin directory should be used for windows. I'm sure there must be a few other things. In general, the biggest change is the UI, particularly using the Netbeans window manager, which allows reorganizing elements and collapsing them to show up when being used and to hide themself into the side or bottom when not used. Program Options has also moved to "Tools->Options" though I may change that location back to the file menu. If you're interested in testing, please make backups of your .blue directory as well as your projects before proceeding! I'll be working on fixing the known issues, then addressing some of the issues in the bug/feature trackers for beta release, then fixing all outstanding issues for final. Any willing tester interested to check it out and give feedback would be very much appreciated! Re: blue 2 - Alpha available to testmy report for now:
- love the looks! A clean and fresh feeling. And now i can look at the orchestra and at the score at the same time, great, now i dont have to guess what that p-field was standing for. Also the mixer is more practical this way i think. The Keymap is great. The export option for Options is cool too, will come in handy for changing between the different soundcards i have. The toolbar windows for TO and PlayTime are too tiny here, a part from the numbers can not to be seen. And the units of the toolbar are too close too each other here, they need some space i think. Now other some issues that needs attention: - The drivers for the ins and outs in Tools/realtime rendering dont work.using Portaudio causes the error: Could not discover devices for this driver. and Portmidi reports a weird message in Midi out - no F7 Csound console - the way the cursor is right now works good. On my system running Blue Classic it took 40% op my CPU power with a cursor refreshing rate of 15, now it takes about 5, an acceptable value i think. And i think it looks better this way too :) I will carry on testing (by using it) Menno |

Re: blue 2 - Alpha available to testHi Menno!
Thabks for the feedback! The main toolbar is definitely meant to expand all the way across the app and worked when I was using Netbeans 6.5 but changed when I moved to 6.7. I have it on my list to investigate. I fixed up a few things over the weekend but am in the middle of fixing up the styling of the tabs which has turned out to be a bit complicated. Hopefully can get through that tonight or tomorrow. As for output, it has moved to the Output window which should be available from the window menu and I think may be Ctrl-Shift-O to open. The netbeans output has some nice features for filtering and controlling font size which should be useful. I'm also glad to hear of the reduction in cpu for the time pointers but wonder if it will spike back up after the fix this weekend to get the time pointer showing on the score time canvas. If so then maybe an option should be added to show full or partial time pointer would be good. I'll be interested to hear after I put out another alpha (should be within next few days). Thanks! Maybe it's not an issue anymore but i've attached a PNG file to let you see what happens here. >As for output, it has moved to the Output window which should be >available from the window menu and I think may be Ctrl-Shift-O to >open. Also the next issues: - name of project when saved does not show on the top of the screen of Blue - saving dialog is not correct? Says "open" , not "save" So far this report from the Netherlands! Re: blue 2 - Alpha available to testHi Menno,
I've been extremely busy with my job work this week and fixing up the toolbar sizing has taken much more time than expected. I'm also leaving tomorrow for a weekend trip so will not have a chance to issue a new build until Sunday at the earlier (though more likely sometime into next week, we'll see what I can get done on the airplane!). As for the output window, if you highlight text is it there just in black? Also, I see a strange icon on the toolbar in your screenshot which I do not see here which is curious. What OS and version are you using (looks like some linux but not sure what window manager you are using)? And what version of Java are you using (java -version)? I can see about installing the exact OS version you are using into a virtual machine to diagnose the output window. Thanks! steven On Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 4:08 PM, menno <nabob_cd@...> wrote: > >>Thabks for the feedback! Re: blue 2 - Alpha available to testI use XP, Java 1.6.0_13. You're right, with Ctl+A i get to see the text of the Output, so it must be printed in black :) The strange icon you see is one of the features i tried out; you can drag and drop shortcut icons from the "Customize Toolbars" window under View. I use Blue2 alpha as if it was 0.125 and seems pretty stable. greetings Menno |
