boot zfs on amd? ZFS stability?

I haven't been watching the lists closely, so I may have missed discussion
of this; is it possible to boot from a ZFS filesystem?  ie: have a ZFS /.
I haven't found anything in the manpages that indicates either way.  I'm
specifically interested on port amd64.

Also, any comments on stability?  I've noted only one complaint about a
zpool coring problem, but found no PRs.

zfs doesn't work on amd64 at the moment.

That requires that code to read /boot fit in 7.5k ...

zfs root bootin on solaris and freebsd is implemented by loading  
kernel + modules from a non zfs partition and later during boot zfs
enables all filesystems and continues in a boot.

The Solaris part is simply not true.  You can, indeed, boot directly
