brand new problems with webDAV under XP

Can anybody comment on this?

I have theory that one of the recent XP updates has broken aspects of webDAV
on windows XP.

webDAV under XP has always been a bit, how shall I put it, odd with repeated
requests for the same username and password ad nauseum.

Things have got a lot worse of late, as now it appears that one cannot
supply a username containing an @ (at} symbol when setting up (or using) a
mapped network connection under XP.

WebLearn Beta uses such usernames for webDAV connections and these no longer
work; usernames without the @ symbol still work as they always used to.

Using webDAV via the Internet Explorer interface (where one can click on a
'dav' URL to pop up a connection) still works ok but of course this method
creates a one-shot webDAV connection and does not set up a permanent
'Network Connection'.

Anybody noticed /heard anything about this ?

Ta J, we've been looking at 'anyclient' which is free.

Bitkinex was recommended by somebody in paris but we haint investigated as
it costs real money!

Adam,

I don't know if this will help or not but after a great deal of frustration
trying to deal with WebDAV and XP (as well as Vista), we opted to use a
FTP/SSH/WebDAV client called BitKinex (www.bitkinex.com/).  There is a free
demo download if you want to try it out.  The company also provided us with
10 or so free licenses because we are an academic institution.

The software isn't ideal as a solution for "basic" users but it works well
for those with more advanced capabilities.

This looks interesting, especially for Windows users.

Getting some further mileage out of an "independent" client such
as this would be in the spirit of this blog post from Chuck
Severance:

http://www.dr-chuck.com/csev-blog/000577.html

Otherwise, Greenbytes maintains a lot of info on Windows-related
DAV issues:

http://greenbytes.de/tech/webdav/webfolder-client-list.html
http://greenbytes.de/tech/webdav/webdav-redirector-list.html

As an aside, they are the purveyors of an iPhone DAV client:

http://greenbytes.de/products.html

I wonder how that works with Sakai.
