Hi All,

Anyone know how to tell if a pda is accessing a web site instead of a pc.
Does the pda send any header information in the http request? For
instance if you go to google on a pda it will go to google.com.au/pda.

How to calculate time difference from two date/time values?

Hi,

I am reading two date/time values from an XML document. Given any day how can I calculate how many hours are available between the hours of 08.00 and 17.30 so I can see how many hours have been utilised on a particular day?

all your code under /tomcatdir/webapps/cfusion ?

Well, I feel your pain, I currently have Tomcat and ColdFusion all running
sweet and also have Apache talking to Tomcat (so I can browse JSP pages via
Apache). I currently do not have Coldfusion pages served via Apache as of
yet.

That's where I disagree with you - I can take this exact same code, run
it under CF5 or CF 6.1 against the same SQL Server 2000 database and it
works. Do it under CFMX 7, and I get this error. In my opinion, it is
JDBC Driver related. I'm using CFMX 7 on a CentOS 4.1 linux server, and
I've always run my CF installs on different linux distros. I'm hoping
to find a way to make JDBC ingore this and keep on working with the query.

Data Truncated Error

Prior to CFMX 7, if I was attempting to put some data into field in my
database that was 7 characters long for example, while my data was 8
characters, it would just truncate it and keep running the rest of the
query. Since CFMX 7, I get an error which kills the query:

[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]String or binary data
would be truncated.

This is a problem for me because I have a massive application that's
grown over the years, and in the past it wasn't a definite problem to
have some data which is longer than the database field. While I realize
I should go back and resize many of the input fields to accept a maximum
length, I don't have time to do that at this point.

Is there a way to turn off this warning and have it ignored? I didn't
find anything relevant in the CF Administrator, so I'm hoping there is a
way to turn it off in the JDBC driver.

Subject: [cfaussie] Data Truncated Error

Prior to CFMX 7, if I was attempting to put some data into field in my
database that was 7 characters long for example, while my data was 8
characters, it would just truncate it and keep running the rest of the
query. Since CFMX 7, I get an error which kills the query:

[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]String or binary data
would be truncated.

This is a problem for me because I have a massive application that's
grown over the years, and in the past it wasn't a definite problem to
have some data which is longer than the database field. While I realize
I should go back and resize many of the input fields to accept a maximum
length, I don't have time to do that at this point.

Is there a way to turn off this warning and have it ignored? I didn't
find anything relevant in the CF Administrator, so I'm hoping there is a
way to turn it off in the JDBC driver.

These word docs come from our clients customers and into our system
through a client branded website, we are an ASP. Its not within the
scope to provide a rich text editor to the users on a public front
end, this is why we get all these word docs.

IIRC, you should not use the "regular" Word COM object. This is not
threaded properly for a multi-user environment and can cause all sorts
of funky problems. I believe the solution was to install Microsoft
Office Server Extensions.

Some WYSIWYG editors claim to handle cut and paste from Word. See FCKeditor

Thanks all, we are in a situation where we deal with a lot of users
uploading documents, our clients then have to use them.

For some reason the Word Plugin in IE doesnt just straight download
the data, it breaks it up into 30kb packets and then has big time lag
between them (like 600ms from the US). This is way too slow,
particularly when you think that a word doc has the entire history of
the doc inside it (unwanted and unused info) and averages 1.5Mb on our
systems.

If you have to go through this everytime for 40 users, you are gonna
get pissed.

To top it all off it then hangs when closing the browser window.

Now - we have thought about forcing the download - in pronciple this
would be ok but would require retraining. And its not the best User
experience, so we figure that if we can convert the doc to HTML then
we alleviate the issue (and the unwanted data), if they need to see
the original then they can d/l right?

Having done a fair bit of research on this I can recommend Davisor
Offisor (outside of the silly name). It's good in that it also strips
out any binary images etc and turns them into jpegs so you can use them
on the web.

It is a commercial Java based app so you need to have a base
understanding of java/cf working together to get it going but it is very
good.

COM integration problem on CF7

We are having a problem with integrating a product we use for some AI
functions that is linked up by COM. We are trying to move to CF7 (read
- this works fine in 6.1) but there seems to be a problem and we cant
get around it.

Error:

An exception occurred when instantiating a Com object.
The cause of this exception was that:
coldfusion.runtime.com.ComObjectInstantiationException: An exception
occurred when instantiating a Com object..

Code:

<cfobject action="CREATE" type="COM" name="talker" class="bgtcom.LensTalker">

Stack trace (partial):
java.lang.Exception: Invalid COM object
at coldfusion.runtime.com.ComProxy.<init>(ComProxy.java:123)
at coldfusion.runtime.CFPage.createObject(CFPage.java:5907)
at coldfusion.tagext.lang.ObjectTag.doStartTag(ObjectTag.java:191)
at coldfusion.runtime.CfJspPage._emptyTag(CfJspPage.java:1908)

Any clues as to what I can do to try and track down what might be causing this?

Hi,

Your sample code doesn't produce a meaningful array, but I can see
what you're trying to do.

The simplest way would be to cfloop over the array looking at each
name element, e.g:

<cfloop from="1" to="#arrayLen(aBooks)#" index="iBook">
<cfif aBooks[iBook].name EQ "DEF">
<cfset bookDEF = iBook />
</cfif>
</cfloop>

Or you could use one of CF's built in functions, look at structFind()
or structFindValue() as I believe these will work on arrays as well as
structs.

Deciding which to use may depend on performance, so I'd test both
techniques if the array is large.
