change .local

Hello together,

I have set up a mDNS server on a debian box in my lan.
I've read that mDNS only works on the .local domain which is, by some
RFC document required.
My question is if there is any possability to change the '.local' to
maybe '.home'.
Does anyone know if this is possible ?

best
Marcus

You can set that using the domain-name option in avahi-daemon.conf. I
don't know whether you can change it for other implementations such as
on Mac OS. Your best bet is to use .local for mDNS (that way it remains
"zero configuration") and move your unicast DNS name (if you have one)
to something else, for example ".home".
