We've noticed hourly bursts of disk i/o activity related to artifactory that is related to jackrabbits garbage collection.

However, I can't find out a lot of info about what that system actually does or how imperitive it is that it runs hourly.

What are the consequences of changing this to daily?  Or if someone could point me to a relevant doc that would be appreciated....

Thanks!

The garbage collector removes old binary artifacts that are unused, so the frequency may be tuned depending on your Artifactory usage.
If you have frequent SNAPSHOTS deployment, hourly is a good practice. If you do nightly releases only, daily is OK.
On multi cores machine, the garbage collector has very minor influence on normal user response time. Does it have a bad effect on your system?
