changing linkpath

Hello all ,

i want to change the linkpath to my xml file from the default one(links.xml). If i change the line under

        <path-action name="LinkTree.setSelectedLinkByUrl">
                <linkpath>/links.xml</linkpath>
        </path-action>

 from the file openEdit/web-inf/base/-site.xconf it doesnt work. Can anybody explain how to have my xml file to be the linktree?
