close list to unregistred members

This is getting quite urgent now, please can we prevent posts from people who have not subscribed to our email list? Our email list is beginning to get out of synch with the forum - email users are receiving email replies to posts on the forum that they have never seen.

Sorry, but I am afraid that we don't have a quick fix for this issue.

We can't do that because we don't know if a user has subscribed or not.

But I do see your point. If user A made a post that is pending, and user B replies to it from Nabble, user B's post may get through to the mailing list, while A's post is still pending there, and thus creating confusion. Is this the problem you are facing?

Right now I think we may be able to to fix this by forcing all pending posts' replies to also be pending. And only forward a pending post when its pending predecessors have all get posted. But this is not a simple change, and I will need to discuss it with others.

thanks that may help a bit.  I don't understand the pending process, what happens if a Nabble pending post is rejected by our email list, does it get removed from Nabble?  it doesn't look to me like it does so I don't really understand the pending status in Nabble, does it mean anything? please can you explain?

This is really a serious issue for our list and might force us to cease using Nabble at some point, especially if someone else offers the feature.

Thanks

David

Pending just means a post hasn't been delievered to the mailing list.

Rejection of a post is just one scenario. There are others. For example, some posts may be pending simply because the mailing list server is down for the moment. Do you want Nabble to delete those pending posts? Also, some posts may be pending because the list is moderated by a moderator who may be on vacation which takes him a bit longer to approve a post ... We only know a post is pending for the moment but we don't know why, and we don't know when it will get accepted, therefore we can't just delete, right? But you as the forum owner can delete any posts in your forum.

The root cause of this problem is that mailing list and forum are two separate servers and it's hard to reconcile the account status between the two. I think this problem will be completely resolved after we add the mailing list feature that we talked about here.

Does it make sense?

I understand how hard it is to make a large group happy. We are working on this email feature right now, and it is at a very high priority for us.

please can we have pending posts automatically deleted after a set time if they have not been appropved by the email list?  Say 2 days should do it.  I understand the problem we will have if our email list is down but we'll have to live with it.  If you could automatically email deleted posts back to the poster this would provide a back up that they could resend.  We also want to restrict our archives to email subscribers only I will post a new one on that.
