coleman heaterOk, so I am trying to put off taking my boat out of the water however it did get a bit nippy sleeping on the boat last week. I am considering a coleman portable heater that connects to a propane tank. I notice they make several different styles. Has anyone had experience with the coleman heaters or recomend anything else?

Re: coleman heaterRummy:
That was the general idea, a little warmth in the cabin. I believe these things are designed to heat tents. Maybe a low level electric is a safer idea? http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/245831/377%20710/0/heater/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/0/0?N=377 710&Ne=0&Ntt=heater&Ntk=Primary Search&Ntx=mode matchallpartial&Nao=0&Ns=0&keyword=heater&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=5002&subdeptNum=12&classNum=543

Re: coleman heaterThis heater is electric and won't kill you if you have shore power to run it.
Just don't use anything that burns fuel. Re: coleman heaterI'm running into the same problem. Tuesday and Wednesday next week are
supposed to be in the 60's,with the night in the low 40's. This summer I bought a small 12 volt heater at a yard sale for a dollar. I'm going to put a thermostat in the positive wire to the power socket that will power the heater. I have a 6-7 year old battery that I used for trolling, that I will use to power the heater. If the heater drains the old battery before morning,I'll still have the house battery to warm up the cabin in the morning . I'll let you know Thursday how it worked. Re: coleman heaterOh,yea,I think the heater you chose from WM would work just fine in the
Rhodes.I don't have shore power at my slip,so that is not an option for me.Due to the 1000 watt lights at the marina,I prefer to anchor out in the lake somewhere, haven't slept in my slip for 4 years. Don't forget to take a ski cap for your final night cap!! Jerry Lowe Country Rhodes CML I'm running into the same problem. Re: coleman heaterI think a good down sleeping bag, a warm rum drink at night and a hot coffee in the morning might do the trick. I might try this next weekend.

Re: coleman heaterI used a Glowmaster butane heater during the cold and rainy day (low
fifties) in the Gulf Islands this summer but only during the day to get warm. The directions say it can be used indoors with I think 80 sq inches of open area for gas exchange but didn't want to risk it. However, here is a recipe for a nice hot drink we called "New England Hot Toddy": Take a quart of cranberry juice and heat it up to just below boiling, add maple suryp to taste, toss in some cinimon sticks (or into the glass before serving) and add a cup or more of rum. (Rummy can recommend the brand) pour into a large thermos and decant later as medicinal needs require. MMMMMM good. It kept me going on those late November sails on the Chesapeake. Re: coleman heaterMy wife and I use a Coleman propane lantern in the cabin on cold nights it has a single mantle and set to a soft glow in the v berth. Since the nicro vent runs 24/7 I dont worry about CO and we shut it off once in the sleeping bags. We have been comfortable in 40 degree nights with this set up. The heat that comes off the lamp is sufficient to take the chill and any dew out of the cabin. Also throws off a nice light.

Re: coleman heaterThat's my method. It doesn't take much body heat to warm up that little
cabin. I've slept aboard on nights where there was (very) light frost, and been entirely comfortable in what most people would consider a summertime sleeping bag. I did have to add a sweatshirt and socks to the normal wardrobe, but it was very comfortable in the cabin. Ben -----Original Message----- From: rhodes22-list-bounces@...
