connection problem with TightVNC to Vista/Win7 systems
Hi folks,
I am assuming the problem is due to the operation systems, as the connection from any system XP SP2, Vista SP1/2 or Win7 to a XP system works without a problem. (in my LAN are running 3 XP SP2 machines, 1 Vista SP1 Home Premium and 1 Windows7 ultimate machines plus 2 NAS servers, which are out of concern) Connecting from the Win7 system to the Vista system, vice versa or from the XP systems to the Vista or Win7 system has the following effect: the connection dialog appears - I enter the IP address the standard VNC authentication dialog opens: I enter the password (which has been set in the VNC server on the machine I want to connect to) and then the dialog appears: TightVNC info: ! Connection closed. which then obviously happens. If I enter a wrong password, the "authentication failed" message comes and the standard VNC authentication dialog appears again. As this happens with the connections to the Vista/Win7 systems only, I suspect it is an operation system issue of TightVNC. By the way: searching the archive with "connection closed" didn't give any hit, so I assume the issue didn't occur yet in former times. Help, support, would be highly appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us! Connection closed. which then obviously happens. Please turn on detailed logging and show us the log file records corresponding to the time when connection drops. To make sure the log file is written, run WinVNC.exe from some place where you have write permissions. By the way, does starting TightVNC Server as administrator solve the issue? (Start it by right-clicking the icon and choose "Run as administrator".) -- With Best Wishes, Constantin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us! Hi Constantin,Hello Rainer, find below the requested log: (I made one trial to connect from a XP and a Vista SP1 box each to the Win7 box, where the server had been manually started (as administrator). I also tried the reverse thing from Win7 to Vista after having started the server on the Vista box manually - at no avail In all cases on the client side there comes the request for authentication and after entering the password a window keeps on appearing saying "connection closed". So the "Run as administrator" option didn't bring any visible result. regards Rainer Mon Oct 19 20:52:50 2009 vncProperties.cpp: saving current settings to registry Mon Oct 19 20:52:52 2009 i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok Mon Oct 19 20:52:53 2009 vncProperties.cpp: saving current settings to registry vncProperties.cpp: enddialog (OK) vncProperties.cpp: dialog result = 1 i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called vncProperties.cpp: loading local-only settings vncServer.cpp: authhosts cleared vncProperties.cpp: clearing user settings i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : FromClear called vncProperties.cpp: loading DEFAULT local settings vncProperties.cpp: loading "Rainer" global settings i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok WinVNC.cpp: message 49214 received WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received Mon Oct 19 20:52:57 2009 WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok Mon Oct 19 20:52:59 2009 WinVNC.cpp: message 273 received vncMenu.cpp: show user properties requested vncProperties.cpp: show per-user Properties vncProperties.cpp: loading local-only settings vncServer.cpp: authhosts cleared vncProperties.cpp: clearing user settings i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : FromClear called vncProperties.cpp: loading DEFAULT local settings vncProperties.cpp: loading "Rainer" global settings Mon Oct 19 20:53:02 2009 vncProperties.cpp: saving current settings to registry vncProperties.cpp: enddialog (OK) vncProperties.cpp: dialog result = 1 i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called vncProperties.cpp: loading local-only settings vncServer.cpp: authhosts cleared vncProperties.cpp: clearing user settings i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : FromClear called vncProperties.cpp: loading DEFAULT local settings vncProperties.cpp: loading "Rainer" global settings i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called i:\tightvnc-1.3.10-setup\vnc_winsrc\winvnc\vncPasswd.h: PASSWD : ToText called vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok WinVNC.cpp: message 49214 received WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok Mon Oct 19 20:53:07 2009 WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok Mon Oct 19 20:53:12 2009 WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok Mon Oct 19 20:53:17 2009 WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok Mon Oct 19 20:53:22 2009 WinVNC.cpp: message 275 received vncMenu.cpp: tray icon updated ok ...................................................................... continuing like the last 4 triplets of lines .............................. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us!
