custom icon theme in nautilus 2.26

Since yesterdays update of squeeze packages my gnome desktop fails to
show my custom icon theme. Nautilus, panel and desktop fall back to what
looks like the clearlooks icon theme. However, Icons in toolbars of
application are ok.

Looking into the history of synaptic, I find that nautilus was updated
from 2.20.0 to 2.26.2 . Gnome-panel was updated from 2.20.3 to 2.24.3

Anyone else noticed this failure to use custom icons?
