Hi Jules,

I guess you know that you can set up cyc server on your computer. So all
will run locally.

Hi Shahin,

Many thanks for your reply. No, I didn't know it was possible to do this. I
understood we could download the Cyc OWL ontology's and incorporate those,
but I never saw any mention of setting up a Cyc server locally.  How is this
done? Have you tried it? It would make life a lot easier!

Best Regards,
Jules

My understanding was that the Cyc that is made available to the public in
this format is just a small subset of the total Cyc knowledge base.

So what's the point if they're if they're only giving away the real Cyc's
mentally challenged little brother?

It seems to me they are just giving away enough to drum up additional
financial sponsors instead of going Open Source and creating a Cyc community
which could further the project's goals without sucking off the government
and corporate teat.

Shahin,

So assuming that the Cyc engine and several million statements are as
valuable as suggest.

Where are the commercial applications that have been developed on top of
them?

I imagine that there are a few black ops applications that the government
has spent a great deal of our tax dollars on but where are the commercial
applications.

I have heard that Cyc has had several corporate sponsors in the past but
what was the return on their investment?

Why not create something like what Wolfram is releasing in Alpha but based
on Cycs several million fact knowledge base?

This is what I am unable to understand.

At one time everyone was patient and hopeful about what Cyc would produce.
Myself included.

But years later we still do not even see a rudimentary chatbot based on it
surpassing single creator entries like Alice in the Turing competition.

Gary

cyc business model

Hi Gary

this dr lenat does not care about business
he made cyc with the money of pentagon
for MILITARY and GOVERNMENT use

look at his business model (how you make money is called business model)

he writes

1- military applications
2- government contracts
3- business

he has made enough money by the FIRST one - military CRAP
that

does not need to care about even government that was second in his list

THANKS GOD  (the CYC = the terminator 3) is available for YOU
to use it and make something PEACEFUL out of it
it seems that
the (Unified Field = God) has banged on his neck to give it away free

GOOD FOR US
take the software and fill it with a PEACEFUL and useful database and
use it for the welfare of human race

it is there
it needs concerned people to use it

May the FORCE be with you and me and all peaceful people
Regards
Shahin
