here is an implementation of dataread.m. it does not
include all features of the original matlab function but
in many case, it does the job.

This is a matlab core function and so should go into the Octave core as
well. You need to follow the Octave coding style to fix this function
before it might be included.. See the layout of some of the other
m-files in Octave.
