>
> Sorry for not getting back to you earlier.
>
>  On my side, I have not touched pbuilder internals that much lately;

Well, on *my* side, I hadn't touched pbuilder at all, before
experiencing the bug I reported!
Nonetheless, I began reading and understanding the code and tried to
come up with a fix...

> the
> approach seems ok, but I would have to dive into the specifics to
> understand whether this is really the best fix, so I preferred leaving
> the bug to Junichi who understands the original intents of the code.

It may be not the *best* possible fix one could ever imagine or desire,
but I think it's a fix, nonetheless.
At least on my boxes, the bug is present without my patch, while it
is not present when my patch is applied.

Did you try to reproduce the bug?
Do you agree with me that my patch fixes the bug?

I don't think that leaving the bug unfixed (since last May!), waiting
for the Perfect Fix™, is a reasonable strategy.

Please apply my patch *as soon as possible*, so that the bug can be
considered fixed.
After that, *if* someone (Junichi, or anyone else) comes up with a more
elegant, or robust, or good-looking, or whatever, fix, I will happily
welcome a further improvement.

>
> I suggest you let more time to Junichi to review the patch and/or come
> up with another solution.

More time than this much?!?
I've waited since Fri, 01 May 2009!

I think it's really time to do something in order to fix this bug...
> > > Hi,
> > > two new versions of pbuilder have been uploaded to unstable without
> > > incorporating my patch to fix bug #526471.
> > >
> > > What's wrong with my patch?
> > > If it was rejected, I would like to know why, so that I can possibly
> > > prepare a new rectified patch...
> > >
> > > May I have some sort of response from the Debian pbuilder maintenance
> > > team?
> > >
> > > In the meanwhile, I am sending a new cleaned up version of my patch
> > > (prepared against the current public git repository).
> > > Please apply it as soon as possible.
> > >
> > > N.B.: as indicated in the patch itself, my changes are released
> > > under the same terms as pbuilder (GPL v2 or later).
> >
> >
> > Again, may I have a reply from the Debian pbuilder maintenance team?
>
> It seems that I do not even deserve an answer... :-(
> This is *really* frustrating!
>
> How am I supposed to contribute to pbuilder, if nobody even cares to

Hi!

I tried to reproduce the bug in version zzuf_0.12-1.1 with a lenny machine (kernel 2.6.26-2-686).

When I compile it directly, all tests pass.

When I run it in a sid cowbuilder environment, some tests pass, but even more tests fail
compared to the test run described in the original bug report.

I tried to look closer at the problem and found the interesting detail (in cowbuilder):

root@rigel:/tmp/533977/zzuf-0.12/test# ./../src/zzuf -s 58202476 -r 0.001 -P '\n' < ./file-text
./file-text > testb.txt

When comparing testa.txt and testb.txt they differ.

root@rigel:/tmp/533977/zzuf-0.12/test# diff test?.txt | head -n 12

Outside cowbuilder, the two commands from above produce both the same output as testa.txt.

When changing the parameter -r 0.001 to -r 0, the output files are in all cases (both commands
in and outside cowbuilder) identical to the input file ./file-text

In my case, not only the sed tests fail but also other tests (but not all of them) when I do
the tests inside cowbuilder.
In some cases, there appears an interesting error (inside cowbuilder):

root@rigel:/tmp/533977/zzuf-0.12/test# ./../src/zzuf -s 25155168 -r 10 -P '\n' < ./file-text |

The "result" MD5 sum of many tests in my cowbuilder case is d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e,
which is the MD5 sum of an empty string. Only the sed test is different in my case: There are
no cowbuilder error messages and the output has the same length as the original output as it
should be; however, the result is not identical as shown above.

Without cowbuilder, every tests passes as mentioned before.

I am using a cowbuilder from the stable cowdancer 0.47 package.

Best regards,

The long description of your package could need some formating
improvements. You seperated the list items with paragraph seperators.
Please notice that those aren't needed and unnecessarily stretches the
list in description renderers. This holds true for all the binary
packages built from the source from what I can see.

So long, and thanks for your great work nevertheless!

Matthias was right, there is a confusion between samples and frames. I
have completed the patch and added a few sanity checks. Reviewers are
wellcome.

I will upload a NMU shortly.

BTW, this is not enough to make normalize-audio work under valgrind.
Normalize-audio has an additional bug.
## DP: FramesPerBlock). Add sanity checks inspired by sox source code.
> included in the package.

The situation with 0.4 is a bit different: the hints file doesn't get
installed at all, and there are even less *.ttf files in the package;
I'm not sure if on purpose or by accident.

Hello,

Is there a chance that you are hitting this bug because of splashy?
Searching google for "return: 24: Illegal number:" returns several
posts about it, though I didn't find anything definite solution -
maybe try removing or reinstalling splashy.
Anyway it doesn't look related to bootchart...
thanks

Hi Knut,

I'm not an autoclass expert, but gdb helped to track that down to calling stuff
via NULL pointer. Attached is a patch which fixes that segfault.

When I select a sound to play for an alarm and press "Play" to preview it, I get the following error:

Could not play sound

This happens for every sound file I choose, and they all exist.

When the alarm itself goes off, no sound is played also.

Hi,

gpgconf support is necessary for new gpa versions. Otherwise it won't
start. Enabling support is as easy as shown in the OP of this bug
Usertags: hurd

Hi,

as shown in the log[1], crawl fails to build on GNU/Hurd.
This is because the code checks for the macro "__MACH__" to know whether the
current OS is mac OS X, but this macro really checks for the Mach kernel,
which is (almost) the same used currently on GNU/Hurd.
The attached patch fixes the issue using a really OSX-specific compiler macro
("__APPLE__", basically).

Package: mercurial-server
Version: 0.9-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi! You may or may not be aware that I've been haunting the
debian-l10n-english mailinglist, trying among other things to
encourage developers to follow the DevRef6.2 guidelines on package
descriptions. One of those guidelines is that the short description
should be a Noun Phrase (minus articles) referring to the package
contents - or to put that in more useful terms, it should fit the
template "$PACKAGE provides a/the/some $SYNOPSIS". Yours on the
other hand fits the template "$PACKAGE lets you $SYNOPSIS" (or
perhaps "$PACKAGE is designed to $SYNOPSIS"), which means it's
(closer to) a Verb Phrase.

Now, phrases like that are common as "apropos" output, and package
descriptions are often copied directly from either a man page or an
upstream website, but both sources have drawbacks. Web pages tend
to be full of irrelevant enthusiasm about how open-source and easy
to compile the software is; man pages tend to assume the reader is
already familiar with the purpose of the software.

Before you ask, the logic of standardising on Noun Phrases goes like
this:
* Browsing through lists of descriptions is easier when they're
parallel, and the quickest way of improving browsability is to
encourage the use of the format that's already ahead.
* Individual executables may have a single function easily
   summarised by a Verb Phrase, but packages aren't executables;
using a Noun Phrase makes packages like x11-common, coreutils,
   or ttf-unifont easier to describe.
* Verb Phrase descriptions make it hard to tell at a glance what
general kind of thing a package provides - a daemon, a graphical
app, a set of commandline utilities?
The inherent vagueness is particularly unwelcome in the case of a
package named "mercurial-server" which doesn't in fact contain a
server binary! Instead I gather that the package is basically a set
of tools (and associated infrastructure) to let admins configure
Mercurial and SSH to work together. So it would be nice if the
synopsis said something like:

mercurial-server - toolkit for managing a shared Mercurial repository

My patch also capitalises "SSH" and "Mercurial" throughout on the
grounds that "ssh" is the command and "mercurial" is the package.

By the way, did you consider the option of naming it "Amalgam"?
