Version: 4.4.2-3
Severity: important

extends key word in gnat projects seems to have problems when
including other projects files.
A test case is joined to this bug report :
proj.gpr with xmlada.gpr
proj_bis.gpr do a with of proj.gpr
proj_ter.gpr extends proj.gpr
so input_sources.{ads|adb|ali|o} should be known
which is the case with gnat gpl 2009 and not with gnat-4.4

This bug was found when trying to use projects file in polyorb/gnat-4.4
using extends. If the extends is removed then the code compile but then DSA
>>> Hi,
>>>
>>> I recently started seeing several cases of gcc giving an error
>>> message like this:
>>> packet-l2tp.c:1680: error: unrecognizable insn:
>>> (insn 419 86 84 9 packet-l2tp.c:1585 (set (reg:DI 200)
>>> packet-l2tp.c:1680: internal compiler error: in extract_insn, at
>>> recog.c:2001
>>
>>
>> Would this be http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=42113  ??
>
> Hmm. The patch that _uncovered_ (not caused) the regression was
> http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8603
>
> It was included in>4.3.4 (that is, not in 4.3.4), 4.4.2, and the 4.5
> branch, so I don't think it could be 42113, but it certainly couldn't
> hurt to test.

From the Debian gcc-4.3 Changelog:

gcc-4.3  (4.3.4-2) unstable; urgency=low
  [ Aurelien Jarno ]
    * patches/kbsd-gnu-ada.dpatch: add Ada support on kfreebsd-amd64.
    * rules.conf: enable Ada on kfreebsd-amd64.
  [ Matthias Klose ]
    * Update to SVN 20090826 from the gcc-4_3-branch.
      - Fixes: PR target/41019, PR target/8603 (closes: #161432),
        PR rtl-optimization/41033, PR target/40906, PR target/40577,
        PR fortran/40847, PR fortran/40851, PR c/41046, PR debug/39706.
        PR middle-end/41094, PR target/40718, PR fortran/41102.
    * Avoid underscores in doc-base document id's to workaround a
      dh_installdocs bug.

So the patch that uncovered 42113 has been included in Debian's gcc
since version 4.3.4-2.

Cheers
Michael

Package: libffi5
Version: 3.0.9~rc3-1
Severity: wishlist

Looking at the (immediate) reverse dependencies of libffi5, it turns
out that most of the reverse dependencies are "Priority: optional",
specifically:

darcs
ghc6
gobject-introspection
gtkrsync
libghc6-xmonad-dev
libgirepository1.0-0
libgwrap-runtime2
pandoc
python-gobject
xmonad

I think given the low-levelness of libffi, it would make sense to have
it be "Priority: optional" instead of "Priority: extra".
>
> Are you able to produce a minimal testcase?

Certainly. If we have a filter test.mailfilter as follows:

>>>

FOO="TestTestTest"
LOWERFOO = tolower($FOO)
UPPERFOO = toupper($FOO)

echo "FOO is $FOO"
echo "LOWERFOO should be testtesttest, is $LOWERFOO"
echo "UPPERFOO should be TESTTESTTEST, is $UPPERFOO"

<<<

With the standard build, I do "echo | maildrop test.mailfilter" and get

>>>

FOO is TestTestTest
LOWERFOO should be testtesttest, is
UPPERFOO should be TESTTESTTEST, is

<<<

But with the -O1 build, I get

>>>

FOO is TestTestTest
LOWERFOO should be testtesttest, is testtesttest
UPPERFOO should be TESTTESTTEST, is TESTTESTTEST
> Recompiling recipenode.C with -O1 option for gcc instead of -O2 returns
> Hello MIPS porters
>
> Bug #558146 seems like a transient error to me. I looked for a mipsel
> porter box to try and build gnat-4.4 on it but the only
> developer-accessible machine, morales, is listed as down due to hardware
> failure on http://db.debian.org/machines.cgi.
>
> Could one of the porters please try to build the package on one of their
> machines and then, if successful, upload to unstable? Alternatively grant
> me remote access to such a machine?
>

The bug is unreproducible here, on a machine similar to the buildds, but
with a more recent kernel (2.6.31).

I have just uploaded the package, so I guess this bug can be closed.

Package: autoconf
Version: 2.64-4
Severity: normal

I have the following packages installed:
autoconf      2.64-4
autoconf2.59  2.59-1
I want to build a kde 3.5 app which is not compatible with ac 2.64,
so I need to use 2.59.
I really should not have to patch the build scripts of the application
in invoke autoconf2.59, but use the alternatives mechanism.
For now, it is even impossible to remove autoconf (2.64) to have
only the 2.59 version:
dpkg: dependency problems prevent removal of autoconf:
automake depends on autoconf (>= 2.60).
autoconf2.59 depends on autoconf (>= 2.50).

Please consider removing dependency of autoconf2.59 on autoconf,
and providing update-alternatives.
system (in gcc, we set the autoconf version by hand in rules.patch).
It must not be the default version on the system. Closing.

FYI: The status of the gdc-4.2 source package
in Debian's testing distribution has changed.

  Previous version: 0.25-4.2.4-3.1
  Current version:  (not in testing)

The script that generates this mail tries to extract removal
reasons from comments in the britney hint files. Those comments
were not originally meant to be machine readable, so if the
reason for removing your package seems to be nonsense, it is
probably the reporting script that got confused. Please check the
actual hints file before you complain about meaningless removals.
This email is automatically generated once a day. As the installation of
>
> I talked to upstream and was assured that upstream is just as clueless as I am:
> Both their and my build attempts on amd64 always worked fine, even if making
> with -jX for some 2 <= X <= 8.
>
> Is there any way one could get access to the system you're building these
> packages, or could you try to dig further yourself? Otherwise I'm absolutely
> clueless how to handle this. Obviously it fails to build, which is also
> reproducible on your hosts, but seemingly not in any other environment. I think
> we'll need some further examinations using strace and gdb at least.

I can still reproduce it, but have no time to investigate it. So let's
close this, and I'll come back to this bug when I will have more time.

Since it's possible to build it successfully manually, it's not critical
anyway.

Package: libstdc++6
Version: 4.4.2-2
Severity: grave

Hi,

  after this morning upgrade apt started to systematically segfault
on my hppa box, not even an update was allowed. i reported this on the
hppa porters list [0].

of course suspect no. 1 is the NPTL switch but downgrading eglibc to
2.10.1-3 or even -2 did not improve the situation. i also tried with
standard kernel 2.6.30-2-parisc-smp (at that moment i was running
2.6.32-rc5) but still nothing.

then i tried to rebuild apt with the latest stuff, just in case NPTL
switch introduced any compatibility issue but g++ died at least one
time during usual autoconf g++ usability tests.

finally i tried downgrading libstdc++6 to 4.4.2-1 and it looks like
the problem is gone. indeed this package was upgraded this morning.

in the meanwhile 2.6.32-rc6 had been built and booted nicely. i've
then been able to use apt again and re-upgraded eglibc to 2.10.1-5 and
everything still works.

upgrading g++-4.4 & related stuff back to 4.4.2-2 not only reintroduces
the problem but it does not even get past the whole process dying before
the end. downgrading to 4.4.2-1 settles everything again.

frankly i do not know what to do next, besides trying to rebuild gcc-4.4
4.4.2-1 with latest eglibc to see if it is the culprit or it is rather
the svn merge between gcc 4.4.2-1 and -2.

thanks,
Domenico
>
> Aurelian has uploaded a new glibc with the fix and informs me that gcc
> is currently rebuilding.
>
> Once I conform that the newly built gcc is OK, we can close this issue
> and start building packages again.
>

gcc-4.4 has been rebuilt against the new eglibc. It is available in the
version 4.4.2-3+b1, and I confirm it fixes the problem. It is now used
on the build daemons.

Thanks to all the persons that made that possible.
