A Ubuntu user of GraphicsMagick reported a problem with large files.
I tested under 32-bit i386 Debian Lenny and was able to reproduce the
problem. What I found is that pwrite64 64-bit file offset of
2147486400 (just under 2GB, 2147483648) and writing across the 2GB
boundary has apparently been transformed to 18446744071562070720 in
the system call, which subsequently fails, returning -1 with
errno=EINVAL. If I configure the software to use fseeko/write rather
than pwrite (using same offsets and access pattern) then there is no
problem.

Here are some strace traces. The 'write' is from fprintf stderr,
printing the original argument values.

I confirm this is wrong it should have been off64_t.

Does it also fixes the su/cron issue? If yes, it's a bug in
libpam-krb5-migrate-heimdal, not libc6.

I installed libpam-krb5-migrate-heimdal a few days ago, and after my
reboot earlier (video issues), I couldn't log in. Seems that there's
some packages that need to be rebuilt for the fairly recent glibc update.
I disabled libpam-krb5-migrate-heimdal with pam-auth-update and I was
able to log in on console with no issues.

I recommend tagging libpam-krb5-migrate-heimdal with this bug I don't
know how, sorry :/ , otherwise I'd do it ).

I think that this bug report is bogus. The pread/pwrite interfaces
do work with

GraphicsMagick has not been definining _XOPEN_SOURCE since this breaks
compilation on many systems. Instead it has been providing its own
prototypes for pread and pwrite with this form:

ssize_t pread(int fildes, void *buf, size_t nbyte, off_t offset);
ssize_t pwrite(int fildes, const void *buf, size_t nbyte, off_t offset);

which should normally be sufficient, but apparently not sufficient for
Linux.

Hi,

As already requested in #558314, I would like to see the
following defines in timex.h:
#define MOD_NANO ADJ_NANO
#define MOD_MICRO ADJ_MICRO

I don't want anything for TAI support yet, so don't define
NTP_API of MOD_TAI yet, they're not useful without the
other changes.

But we now need to patch ntpd because STA_NANO is defined
but MOD_NANO isn't, and for some reason there is a ADJ_NANO
that does what MOD_NANO is supposed to do.

"powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu" Debian system, with a binary build as
"ELF 32-bit MSB executable, PowerPC or cisco 4500, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.8".

Bug#559376: pwrite64 fails to support large files in 32-bit application

A Ubuntu user of GraphicsMagick reported a problem with large files.
I tested under 32-bit i386 Debian Lenny and was able to reproduce the
problem. What I found is that pwrite64 64-bit file offset of
2147486400 (just under 2GB, 2147483648) and writing across the 2GB
boundary has apparently been transformed to 18446744071562070720 in
the system call, which subsequently fails, returning -1 with
errno=EINVAL. If I configure the software to use fseeko/write rather
than pwrite (using same offsets and access pattern) then there is no
problem.

Here are some strace traces. The 'write' is from fprintf stderr,
printing the original argument values.

Apt-get update failed. Currently installed version of libc6 or libc-bin
(these go hand-in-hand??) is 2.9-26 but I don't know which version apt
had coming. Possibly 2.10.2-2. The output of "--dry-run" goes like

As far as I understand, what the libc6 really provides nowadays is

Weeks starting on monday was the previous behavior, but POSIX mandates
that week starts on sunday, so the current behavior is correct.

Apparently kvm doesn't implement FPU compatibility mode and assumes that
the OS uses native mode, while qemu works fine. I'm adding native
support for gnumach, that should fix it.

Could you please provide support for NTP API 4?

The changes in version 4 is the addition of MOD_TAI (ADJ_TAI)
and a tai member in the ntptimeval struct.

The kernel already supports this since 2.6.26 when ADJ_TAI
got added. The current /usr/include/sys/timex.h already
has ADJ_TAI and a tai member in struct timex. The
struct ntptimeval however didn't get changed, since this
is not part of the kernel but implemented only in libc.

- add "long int tai;" to struct ntptimeval. This is a long in
all known versions I know, but the kernel has an int in
the struct timex (for compatibility reasons with the old
struct?).
- #define NTP_API 4
- Have a MOD_TAI define

Note that there is an ADJ_TAI in timex.h, and defines
to change from ADJ_* to MOD_*, but there is no such one
for TAI, NANO or MICRO. The ntp source does not use any of
the ADJ_* names, it only uses MOD_*.

The following defines are missing:
#define MOD_NANO ADJ_NANO
#define MOD_MICRO ADJ_MICRO
#define MOD_TAI ADJ_TAI

(The other 3 ADJ_* defines are not used in ntp.)
