Hello,

this Job is not Debian-centric, but Debian-compatible, with many collaborators
using Debian or Ubuntu. The focus is on high energy physics (HEP):

http://www.admin.uio.no/opa/ledige-stillinger/2009/vitenskapelige/postdocfellowresearcherPhysics-2009-16425.html

I know the group to be good and friendly. This should be a dream position to be
in and do something good for the world. There are quite a number of HEP
packages in Debian already, mostly by their collaborators at CERN and Christian
(DM) in Copenhagen. The grid packages are done by the collaborators in
Copenhagen (Anders, a prospective DM) and Mattias (DM and DD applicant) in
Uppsala who are all collaborating via the NorduGrid.

From a Debian perspective, the challenge is to see our distribution used more
in those world-wide leading environments and have as much of the technologies
as possible forwarded through the Debian channels to mainstream. So I hope one
of us to be picked for this position.

Good luck!

Afternoon,

At the moment my employer are hiring for some more Support staff,
primarily to fill entry-level roles doing 1st Line Support - we're based
over in Bath with easy commute to Bristol and surrounding areas.

We provide VoIP to a decent number of SMB in the United Kingdom, and our
product portfolio also includes "the usual suspects" in the form of a
shared web hosting service, e-mail hosting, domains/DNS and ADSL.

Our platforms run on Debian GNU/Linux with a smattering of older systems
still deployed using CentOS or FreeBSD.

It is a nice place to work, quite laid back and with friendly
1st Line Support: three positions, circa £15-16k
several IT jobs boards (and recruiters) have had the details.

The Linux-based Maemo platform is the software that powers mobile devices such as the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. To make the Maemo platform even more powerful, we at the Maemo SW entity in Devices R&D are now looking for people to take it to the next level as part of the applications and platform development teams. We aim to extend the platform's capabilities as software for innovative communication and Internet devices; also by adding a Qt-based application development environment to complement the existing GTK+.

To help us in this cutting edge work, we are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in Helsinki (or Tampere), Finland. As part of our platform optimization function, you will work on our OMAP-based Linux product and help solve system-wide performance problems. You will especially focus on packaging and porting performance tools, tuning the tool chain for best optimization options and taking the restrictions of the Scratchbox/QEMU build system into account. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze problems in tools and services and propose short, middle and long-term solutions. Besides planning, reporting, designing and reviewing, your wide-ranging responsibilities will also include coaching your fellow team members.

This position available here http://www.nokia.com/imaginemaemo as “Software Engineer/Specialist-HEL00000138”

Frontier Communications is seeking a talented programmer to join its System
Services team.

You'll be:
----------
- Developing and modifying software to support Internet services
(e-mail, web sites, account/product provisioning, etc.) and the
machines and infrastructure that deliver them.
- Working with other groups and outside vendors to develop and
implement software and support new product launches.
- Evaluating and modifying Open Source software. This includes helping
to decide which Open Source software to use for new projects,
tracking upstream project development, source-level troubleshooting,
and patch writing/submission to upstream projects.
- Writing documentation covering processes, design decisions, and
  programming standards.
- Mentoring and teaching your co-workers, and vice versa.
- Performing light to moderate systems administration (mostly basic
operating system maintenance, such as new installations and updates).

You should have:
----------------
- Working knowledge of at least two of: PHP, Python, Unix shell, C,
  and Perl.
- A background using, developing, and adapting Open Source software.
- Great communication skills, both oral and written. You can target both
technical and non-technical audiences. You successfully persuade others
with your thoughtful, well researched arguments. You tell your teammates
and manager in advance about possible issues or needs.
- A strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced team.
- Working knowledge of (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other web-related
  languages and standards.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and a desire to apply
  them as much as possible.
- Working knowledge of Linux distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu, and
Red Hat. The majority of our machines run Debian or Ubuntu.
- The ability to keep a cool head and rapidly troubleshoot problems,
both proactively and in crisis situations.

It would be great if you:
-------------------------
- Can perform moderately involved MySQL database administration.
- Know about major Internet protocols, such as DNS, LDAP, SMTP, POP3,
  IMAP, HTTP/HTTPS, RADIUS.
- Have experience in an Internet Service Provider (ISP) environment.

Frontier offers:
----------------
- 401(k) matching, bonus/profit sharing, health and vision benefits.
- Four weeks' annual paid time off that accrues from date of hire.
- Tuition reimbursement.
- Group discounts on wireless service, vehicles, computers, etc.

Publicly available blogs and/or past work are definite pluses.

Ideally, you would work in one of our major locations:

Hi.

My current employer (a sufficiently stable company with solid financial
situation and good products) is looking for some (senior level) system
administrators.
The company is offering (noticeably) above average payments, friendly
work environment and a few other benefits.

We are looking for someone who has a deep knowledge of Linux in general.
Knowledge in puppet (configuration management), networking, firewalls,
routing protocols, DNS, Apache, tomcat, heartbeat (linuxHA) and
databases are not all needed, but you should be able to cover some of them.
Now to the downsides: You should be willing to cope with RedHat EL
(mostly RHEL 5) and CentOS (also mostly 5) despite being far inferior to
Debian ;-)
An additional plus would be some knowledge in Windows Domain/AD/Exchange
Administration to be able to work as a backup if our primary Windows
people are all unavailable.

Language requirements: Fluent english needed, fluent german a definite plus.

If you are interested, I can give you more details in private mail.

Regards,
