default sort order of ledger

The current default ledger sort order appears to be Post date,  
Reconcile, state, Amount.  I would think it should include Number,  
probably above Amount, to assure checks on the same day sort in check  
number order.  There appears to be an old bug marked fixed - I don't  
know if the fix got lost over the years, or changed by design.  (I know  
I can change boht the temporary order, and the default order - I'm just  
wondering about the initial default sort order.)
