As you might imagine, requests for comparisons between Open Office and MS Office are a common newcomer question, so there are a lot of compilations, and references to those compilations in the archive. For example, message 194691 <http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=users&msgNo=194691> is a pretty good example, and might be a good place for you to start. > Also if anybody has migration experience from Msoffice to Openoffice, > pls. share with me issues faced. This is a less general question, because each organization has different sticking points, depending on what they do. Again, the archive can be very helpful, but there is no substitute for trying it for a while, and seeing what points or apparent deficiencies cause problems for your organization - and then, when you can't find answers to apparent problems in the OO documentation, come back to the list for answers. [I have found some very bright and helpful people here.] Unfortunately, there's no quick shortcut for that. Re: deployment of openofficeHi balwant. While I have no experience in such a migration, I am very
interested in the process, especially in the company setting. I am particularly interested in any problems you might have or suggestions for improvements. If it's not too much to ask could you please post any documentation of the experience? iPhone of Gallo On 2009-11-03, at 21:21, balwant singh <bsingh21@...> wrote: > Hi, > > We want to deploy Open Office in our Company. An article at <http://www.tech-pro.net/howto_010.html> explains why and also offers one way to get round it. I don't know if other MS e-mail programs, such as Outlook, also lose their spellchecking capability if you remove MS Office. One of the things that has caused confusion in the past in this list is that OpenOffice.org does not include an e-mail program. Instead it will invoke whatever program is configured in Windows as your "default program for e-mail". Many OOo users use Thunderbird or one of its variants but that's by no means universal. -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to users@... |

I am a fan of opensource. I am trying all things so that only openoffice should be implemented at my place. But I have found some limitation :- 1. No organization chart making tool available - as available in msoffice. 2. Macro - will not run straight forward. 3. Vlookup - can work only upto 14 digits while in msoffice there is no such limitation. I seek your help for the above things. Also if there will be some detailed case study of any company who migrated from msoffice to openoffice that will be great. If somebody can share with me the issues which can be faced in openoffice in comparision to msoffice, o that we can check the same before user inform us the same. Once again thanks for your help. -- With Best Wishes Balwant |

Do you mean Visio (a more general purpose drawing tool)? Do things like these help? <http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/Drawings/Example:_Creating_a_Simple_Organizational_Chart> <http://www.google.com/search?q=organizational+chart+openoffice+draw> > 2. Macro - will not run straight forward. Sorry, don't know what you mean here; maybe someone else will... but see suggestion below. > 3. Vlookup - can work only upto 14 digits while in msoffice there is no such > limitation. You mean 14 characters? [I don't know if that's true, BTW.] May I suggest that you break this into 3 threads, one for each question? That way people can use the Subject lines to recognize where they can help. Otherwise your concerns are buried under a misleading title. > I seek your help for the above things. Also if there will be some detailed > case study of any company who migrated from msoffice to openoffice that will > be great. Does this<http://www.google.com/search?q=openoffice+migration> help? I think there is far more there on the general question that you can expect to find in a mailing list. Good luck, and please consider that suggestion to split your topics identifiably.
