> I dont understand this. Does xcalib set the X atom or not? If not, you can
> choose your profile manually. If it does, it's already selected in digikam.

If it is working that way I'd have no problem. But unfortunately it is
>> 1. Take a jpeg file without tags.
>> 2. set one tag for that file
>
> In which way do you write the metadata to the file?
> I have enabled "write tags to metadata" in the settings, I assign the tag with
> the right sidebar (imgdescedittab) and it's done directly.
> (and removed directly as well)

For me it isn't written to the metadata directly, eventhough I have the
> > > profiles using an IT8.7 target and using a raw converter that
> > > supports the use of color profiles is the ultimate answer.
> >
> > Do not get mistaken - using the colorimetric approach only will
> > result in good (hopefully) colours, which is not what the camera
> > does (convert colours with preference of skin-tones, green, etc.,
> > adjust tone curve, saturation). A photographer usually wants to
> > get pleasing (good looking) images, not high-fidelity images.
>
> I think it is a little bit more than that. With such a ICC file you
> get a exact (within the limits of the sensor) copy of the scene,
> including gamma, curve and saturation correction to get it. From a
> technical point of view this is the best you can get.
>
> What you don't get are the emotions in the picture. For this you have
> to adjust several parameters, and sometimes you will add stuff you
> normally avoid to get (like false colours and noise).
>
> But as a base this work-flow may be the best start. I am still trying
> several ways to get the best out of my pictures. And it does not make
> much sense to fix some green (or red or blue) colour in your picture
> if you don't use a colour managed environment. This includes the
> printing stuff as well. Sadly most print labs don't offer colour
> management (at least here in Germany).

Costco does here in Calgary. They rock, actually.

> It would be great if ufraw gets this settings. As RawTherapee will
> become GPLed software, the developer may take a look at it. This
> software has some really fine features.
> > > profiles using an IT8.7 target and using a raw converter that
> > > supports the use of color profiles is the ultimate answer.
> >
>
>
>

Is RawTherapee going to be GPL'd ?
>> >
>> > Are you using Qt facilities to implement the zooming?
>> > I would expect to continue using the current zooming code when drawing on
>> Hum, what do you mean exactly ?
>
> You say that imlib2 code is faster than the new graphics view widget's zooming
> From that I understood that you're not using DImg based zooming but some other
> code to do the zooming.
> I didn't look at the code yet at all.

Marcel,

All zoom and paning features are controled by QT4::QGraphicView. No

I am fully aware of this. Canon ships several profiles with DPP to
allow for specific types of image enhancement. (Ie Portrait, Landscape,
Vivid, etc.)

I intend to generate my profile and then compare it to the Canon
profiles and edit accordingly.

One of the things that profile generation allows us to do is build
profiles based on different types of lighting.

> The ICC profile will do only the first step and unless you use an ICC
> profile editor to store the manual adjustments in the profile, the other
> corrections are to be done in image editor manually...

Agreed.

> With UFRaw, you have better chances for automation, since you can adjust
> linear curve (before gamma is applied), lightness curve (in L*a*b* space
> after gamma/ICC profile is applied), saturation and keep these settings
> for later use.

Agreed.

> However, you still do not have the possibility of unique colour
> adjustments (e.g. make skin tones warmer and do not affect too much the
> other colours).

That is what different profiles are for.
Hi Marcel, yes I refer about dragging pics out of Digikam and into a file
manager window.

Digikam behaves differently from other apps from some reason. When I drag a
photo in digikam, the mouse pointer changes color and I see a "1" inside a
little box besides the mouse pointer; there is also a small picture that shows
up besides the mouse pointer as well.

Intuitively, if I Ctrl-drag I would expect a "+1" inside the little box.

All this does seem to be controlled by digikam. No other app in desktop behaves
like this, even KDE Archiver tool.

Also the reverse operation is a "move" by default and doesn't seem to offer
"copy" by Ctrl-drag

--
I have enabled "write tags to metadata" in the settings, I assign the tag with
the right sidebar (imgdescedittab) and it's done directly.
(and removed directly as well)
> >> faster...
> >
> > Are you using Qt facilities to implement the zooming?
> > I would expect to continue using the current zooming code when drawing on
> > the graphics view.
>
> Hum, what do you mean exactly ?

You say that imlib2 code is faster than the new graphics view widget's zooming
From that I understood that you're not using DImg based zooming but some other
code to do the zooming.
I didn't look at the code yet at all.
If you are (and you say you do) talking about dragging _from_ digikam _to_ any
other app, than that's not our problem at all - the receiving app is
responsible for providing such a choice.

For me, dolphin indeed defaults to copying and cannot be convinced to move.
I'm not sure why. Maybe it's using the digikam URLs and treating them as remote
files. In any case, text/uri-list is available as well.
I think this bug entry is still valid. I found a example image at
http://www.locus-caementitium.de/download/lcf_galerie.jpg Digikam show other
colors than krita (krita is more natural, look for the red seat in front and
the wall in the background). The colors of krita also match the colors of
windows photo viewer. Applications also wrong: gwenview, XnView. So please
reopen this entry.
> to workflow I have some doubts...
>
> Generally, I think embed JPEG are not mainly in full resolution nor
> compressed with a fine quality set. If not why the RAW+JPG shooting mode
> exist ?

I think there are usecases for this. Sometimes, you may not want to bother
with tweaking options to access your image for editing. And I have seen NEF
files with full resolution embedded JPG.
>> Andi,
>> I create a new version of PreviewImage widget in libkipi-plugins,
>> using QGraphicsView,as you have done in RedEyesRemoval, Plus some
>> improvements, as toolbar,
>>
>> I checked code from libksane, where Sare has used also QGraphicsView.
>> Idem into DarkRoom from Ciry Berger (Krita team).
>>
>> In all case, Zoom and panning is slow. Can you reproduce ?
>>
>> I make something wrong with Scene cache settings ?
>>
>> In all case, digiKam::PreviewWidget using imlib2 code is very well
>> faster...
> In all case, digiKam::PreviewWidget using imlib2 code is very well
