Hi,
I'm a small shop owner in Singapore selling my own brand of men's wear clothing.
I'm looking for small factories to produce my clothing in small quantity.
I intend to do 4 seasons per year and probably 4-5 cut and sew items for each season.
Quantity I'm looking at is about 30-40 pieces for each item depending on variation.

Please recommend any contacts of factories that can accomodate small orders like mine.

Any advise or recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Export Your Goods to China

Mainly there are 3 ways one can export his/her goods in China:

1. Distribute your goods directly
2. Establish a joint venture
3. Find a qualified agent or distributor with a vast sales network

Before exporting your goods into China or choosing a Chinese partner, it is advised for you to conduct thorough market research and due diligence. Companies should be mindful of possible problems in export rights, regulations and intellectual property rights protection. If the company decides to distribute the goods directly, then it will have to be aware of the distribution rights and understand the licensing process in China.
Distributing your goods directly may be a complicated and time-consuming process as one may not be familiar with China’s business practices and government regulations. Application for distribution rights and establishment of own distribution channels will be difficult. Chances of failure will be higher as a result. Establishing a joint venture will thus be a better option. Establishing cooperation with a local partner can allow you to have faster access into China’s market and with the local partner’s knowledge and experiences of China’s market, your success rate will be higher and goods can be better distributed. Acquiring help from a local partner does give you many advantages in penetrating the China’s market. A side issue to note will be that joint venture usually requires large amount of capital and China’s government may have capital control towards outflow of funds should one transfer his/her funds back to his/her home country. The government will also need to assess the potential economic benefits that it can bring to China, e.g. does it create job opportunities for the local population before approving it.

For small and medium sized companies, the best way to enter the China market is through a reputable or well-known agent or distributor. These companies are located regionally and typically have large sales network. Thus they will be able to have a better understanding of the China’s market and can provide assistance in developing distribution strategies in China and the region. In this way, new products can be launched easier into the market and distribution network can be set up rapidly without any problems dealing with distribution rights and licensing.

Besides all these, the most important step that one must take before exporting his/her products into China will be have a thorough understanding China’s customs, regulations and controls towards imported goods. A sound market entry strategy is also necessary in order to penetrate the China’s market. An assessment of your goods’ strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats can allow you to promote and distribute your products better. Understanding the profitability and marketability of your products in the China’s market is thus vital before exporting your products into China.

Then, some on-line tools helpful for your trade in China：

China Government Encouraged Foreign Trade Cooperation

In 2009, China will further adopt more preferential conventional tariff and concessionary rate than the most favored nation tariff to promote trade cooperation with foreign countries and regions for mutual benefits and development.
One can search for the new tariff changes on-line:
Ministry of Finance PRC http://www.mof.gov.cn
China Customs http://www.customs.gov.cn
"Customs Import and Export Tariff of the People's Republic of China" on-line and new tariff changes &tariff calculation: http://www.e-to-china.com/wizards/tariff.php.

China maintained the China-ASEAN free trade conventional tariffs on some commodities manufactured in ten countries of ASEAN and took the third turn of normal tax reduction. After tax reduction, there are about 6750 tax items adopting the conventional tariff, with the average preferential margin of about 80% compared with the most favored nation tariff. The second is to continue the China-Chile free trade conventional tariff on some products manufactured in Chile and conduct the fourth overall tax reduction; the third is to continue the China-Pakistan free trade conventional tariff on some products manufactured in Pakistan and conduct the third overall tax reduction. After tax reduction, there are about 6191 tax items with the conventional tariff lower than the corresponding most favored nation tariff, with the average preferential margin of about 37%. The fourth is to continue the China-New Zealand free trade conventional tariff on some products manufactured in New Zealand and conduct the second overall tax reduction. After tax reduction, there are about 6989 tax items adopting the conventional tariff, with the average preferential margin of over 40%. The fifth is to continue the "Asia Pacific Trade Agreement" conventional tariff on 1751 products manufactured in Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Laos, with the applicable rate for some tax items further reduced and the average preferential margin of about 23%. The sixth is to continue zero duty on the products manufactured in Hong Kong and Macao. According to existing origin standard establishment conditions, there will be 1539 products and 681 products with zero duties separately for Hong Kong and Macau form January 1, 2009. The seventh is that China will firstly conduct tax reduction on some products manufactured in Singapore form January 1, 2009 in accordance with the China-Singapore free trade convention. Compared with the China-ASEAN free trade convention (Singapore is also a member of ASEAN), we have 708 items with more rapid tax reduction speed for Singapore, and the rest tax items have the same tax reduction extent with that in the China-ASEAN free trade convention. After tax reduction, there are 2739 tax items adopting the China-Singapore free trade conventional tariff, with the average preferential margin of about 75%.

After my real experience, I want to summary some of my thoughts about e-to-china and also I’d prefer to introduce it to overseas suppliers for the following points.
1.	Compared with its counterparts, the government supported website greatly ensures its authorities. As far as I know, there is a professional expert group where you can consult experts in aspects of taxation accounting audit issues, boned warehouse and processing trade-related problems, enterprise strategy and marketing etc.
2.	Trade Alert Channel:
I subscribe to Trade-alert service. I am really very satisfied with the daily received e-mail.
It contains all the valuable and timely information of all industries in aspects of tariff change, import management, industry alert, investment and exhibition information. It’s a good partner especially for those who have no experience in Sino-trade.
3.	Last but not the least, I think well of China Policy & Law Channel.
It a strong functional law issues searching engine. Here you can easily get the detailed law issues on Customs, inspection and quarantine, foreign exchange, intellectual properties rights etc. The proverb “Do in Rome as Rome does” is also practical in international trade.
General speaking, www.e-to-china is a customs friendly, well-structured, professional Sino-trade platform and worth your choice.

Distribute your goods directly
2. Establish a joint venture
3. Find a qualified agent or distributor with a vast sales network
Then, some on-line tools helpful for your trade in China：

Besides all these, the most important step that one must take before exporting his/her products into China will be have a thorough understanding China’s customs, regulations and controls towards imported goods. A sound market entry strategy is also necessary in order to penetrate the China’s market. An assessment of your goods’ strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats can allow you to promote and distribute your products better. Understanding the profitability and marketability of your products in the China’s market is thus vital before exporting your products into China.

Wanshengwei

This is the metro station east of Pazhou station, just one stop from Pazhou. Before the development of Pazhou exhibition center, Wanshengwei is just the rural area. In recent years, there are much development, so you would find this is a area which is just in the transition between modern and traditional. Basically, we only manage to find 2 hotels with modern facilities and 1 hotel which can call hotel but which is more traditional style. Other than that, you would find those guesthouses run by private family which mainly target local clientele. You need to try hard to look for those guesthouses. They charge very low price, which you can share a double room with your friend, and it only cost you US$5 per night per person. But if it is legal or safe, depends on your fortune.

After visiting for many hotels on metro no. 4 line, we believe for guests who focus on Canton Fair, looking for accommodation with close proximity to Pazhou, the hotel in Wanshengwei would offer the best choice of value for money.

Pazhou Guesthouse Hotel

Double room with 2 bed	USD45
Double room with 1 bed	USD35
Single room -----
3 bed room -----
Suite USD48

Transport 5
Free Shuttle bus to Pazhou: yes
Environment	2
Facilities 2
Service 1
Price $$
Close to night life	1
Internet access: available in some rooms.
English speaking: 1
Air condition: yes
Elevator: no

In terms of location, Pazhou Guesthouse has the top location; it is just one metro station from Pazhou. Just get out of Wanshengwei metro exit C, and walk straight for 5 min.
If you are looking for double room below US$30, which is close to metro station, then definitely, this is the best choice.

Yet, of course, you have to bear a series of short coming. For instance, you would surprise to find just get out of metro station; you would first pass by a vegetable field. Actually this hotel is located in a “village”. You would found yourself totally emerged into a completely Chinese village environment. If you are interested to get a real feeling about the original villagers, or the migrant workers who stay in suburb of city, then this is a good start. Yet, do not expect anything related with western world.

Besides, you would have plenty of chance to get a feel about traditional Chinese hotel for instance, the floor is pretty slippery, and some of the stairs do not have the handrail. Besides, even though the hotel has fourth and fifth floor, yet, there is no lift. Even though they claim they would arrange staff to help you to bring your luggage.

Of course, you cannot expect any room service and even the receptionist cannot speak any English.

There is just a Chinese restaurant downstairs and a dish for one person is just about US$2, which is below market price in Guangzhou and you can recharge yourself with traditional Chinese dim sum breakfast before you start your busy day in Pazhou.

Address: No. 116, Chaoyang road, Pazhou east village, Guangzhou
Tel: 86-20-34311118-8000 86-20-34312033

Chao Shan Guesthouse

Double room with 2 bed	USD15
Double room with 1 bed	USD14
Single room -------
3 bed room --------
Suite --------

Transport 5
Free shuttle bus to Pazhou: No (around US$0.8 to Pazhou by van each person for one way)
Environment	1
Facilities 1
Service 1
Price $
Close to night life	1
Internet access: no
English speaking: 0
Air condition: some

If you are looking for super cheap accommodation in area close to Pazhou, then definitely this is the one.

Located close to Pazhou Guesthouse Hotel, this guesthouse is also located in Wanshangwei station, i.e. one metro stop from Pazhou, and it takes only 10 min. walk from the metro station.

A double room would cost US$10 per night during Canton Fair period. Yes, TEN Bucks per night only.

Of course, at this price, you cannot expect anything, other than a bed to sleep.

This is located in a typical village building of 4 floors. With the ground floor used as a small restaurant and you would register on the cashier of the restaurant. They have around 15 rooms, and there is no toilet inside the room. On each floor, there are 2 toilets shared by 5 rooms, i.e. maybe among 10 guests. The toilet is used as shower room as well. So, maybe you need to spend sometime to wait for the bathroom in evening and morning.

Besides, the hygiene is not good. As the ground floor is used as restaurant, the floor is extremely slippery. You would feel yourself playing ice skating as you walk on the ground floor. There is various goods stored in the corridor.

Moreover, these are privately run guesthouse, which they do not have the license to operate as a guesthouse, not to mention to accept foreign guest. Of course, they have never received any foreign guests, and none of the staff can speak any English.

As the operators try to keep the cost down, some of the rooms do not have air conditioner and even some of the bed even do not have mattress. So, you need to sleep on the hard wooden panel.

So, make sure you can tolerate all these problems, before you make the booking.

Address: No. 49, Chaoyang road, Pazhou east village, Guangzhou
Tel: 86-20-34312994

Hai Lan Lan Hotel

Double room with 2 bed	USD75
Double room with 1 bed	USD52
Single room -------
3 bed room --------
Suite USD90

Transport 4
Free shuttle bus to Pazhou: Yes

Environment	4
Facilities 4
Service 3
Price $$$
Close to night life	1
Internet access: yes
English speaking: 1
Air condition: yes

If you are looking for a hotel with decent facilities, internet access, good environment, not very far from Pazhou and below US$50 per night during Canton Fair period, then this is definitely the top choice.

It’s 10 min. walk (1.5km) from Wanshengwei Metro station to Hai Lan Lan Hotel. Yet, the road condition is not too good. So you may need to take a taxi, or take 1 bus stop from metro station.
Anyway, they offer free shuttle bus to Pazhou venue.

This hotel is pretty new. They have all the normal hardware which you expect from a business hotel. With internet access in room. It is located close to the high tech park, so the environment is much better than other budget accommodation which is located in village.

If you are those who is really hardworking and spent all the day time in Canton Fair and found yourself completely exhausted in the evening, so just look for a comfortable room to relax, with decent internet access to communicate with your family at home and organize the data collected from Canton Fair, and you do not want to spend too much time on the road commuting between hotel and Pazhou and you are not eager to explore the city, not looking for night life, not expecting any decent western food, with budget of US$50. Then this would be an excellent choice.

When you step into the hotel, you would found most of the facilities are new and with thick carpet on corridor, all telling you this is a normal hotel in western standard.

What’s different from those international chains is: the hotel staff cannot speak English and there is no restaurant within the hotel.

You need to cross the road to go to HuangPu village, which you would found Chinese restaurant in the village, which again you would found yourself surround by totally Chinese village environment.

Different from Pazhou Guesthouse Hotel is: it is farther from metro station, basically, it is not within walking distance, and it cost US$20 extra compare with Pazhou Guesthouse.

Yet, we guest foreign guest would found they can “tolerate” Pazhou Guesthouse hotel, but most people would found Hai Lan Lan is OK. At the price of US$50 per night, you would found this hotel much better than other hotel of similar price in city, i.e. farther from Pazhou.

Address: No. 5, Haicheng west street, Xingang east road, Haizhu district, Guangzhou
Tel: 86-20-89232203

Xin Zhou Hotel

Double room with 2 bed	USD48
Double room with 1 bed	USD32
Single room -------
3 bed room --------
Suite USD63

Transport 4
Free shuttle bus to Pazhou: No
Environment	4
Facilities 4
Service 3
Price $$$
Close to night life	1
Internet access: yes
English speaking: 1
Air condition: yes

Xinzhou Hotel is a brand new hotel which just opened on April 1, 2008. So, needless to say, everything is new and clean. This is also close to Wanshengwai station, which is also 10 min. walking distance from metro station. There is also bus linking Pazhou to the bus station, which is 5 min. walk from the hotel.

This is located in a quiet high class residential neighborhood, so of course, that means there is no restaurant and night life. But if you do not mind to walk for 10 min. from metro to the hotel, then this would not be a problem.

Basically, this hotel is clean and hygiene, with internet access. So, basically, we believe most of the guest would found the hardware of this hotel acceptable.

In terms of hardware, facilities, location, price, this is very similar to Hai Lan Lan. We would highly recommend this for guest who looks for decent accommodation and with budget of US$50 per night.

Hotel room rates in Guangzhou city center are madly increased during Canton Fair; yet, you can find budget hotels along metro line 4, which are just a few stops away from Pazhou metro station. The cheapest room rate for a double room would be $10 per night. For more detailed information and the list of budget hotels, you can visit : http://ecomeego.com/cantonfairaccommodation/

Budget Accommodation during Canton Fair

Can you believe that you can find a double room for US$10 per night, at a place which takes only 1 metro stop from Pazhou exhibition center and 5 min. from metro station?

Can you believe you can find guesthouse which is also on the metro line and charge you US$10 per night and is spotlessly clean, with very friendly staff?

Are you looking for a hotel room which is clean, convenient and most importantly, reasonably price?

This is the page which is dedicated to introduce the budget accommodation for visitors of Canton Fair, we would share the tips with you and help you to set the right expectation on what to expect.

Before you start looking for hotel, it is important to find out what kind of accommodation you are looking for. What is your key criteria?

Close to city center? Close to night life? Close to Pazhou exhibition center? Or close to Liuhua exhibition center? (this is the 2 venue for Canton Fair and they are quite apart, so you need to find out which one you prefer) Security? If there is any free shuttle bus to exhibition center? Close to metro station? Taxi fare to different place is not too expensive? Decent room? Or just looking for a clean environment? Broadband internet access? Or just with an internet café around the corner is OK?

These are important questions. As you should understand during the 2 weeks Canton Fair, there is more than half a million local exhibitors and overseas visitors flux into Guangzhou area, so you have to understand what is your preference and what is your tolerance level before you search for the hotel.

In this site, we would focus to introduce budget accommodation which is linked to Pazhou venue by metro, so as to advice a resting place for the visitors of Canton Fair. We would try to share different type of information to you, so as to help you to make the informed choice.

So, maybe the hotel introduced in this site would not satisfied those who would have great preference to stay in city center, night life, hub , bars and night club. Also, by default, those hotel which is still bargain in Canton Fair means they do not get used to receive foreign guests and that means most of the hotel staff cannot speak English. So, please examine carefully about your tolerance level before you start the searching process.

To start on the introduction, we would focus on the accommodation which is located on Guangzhou No. 4 metro line.

But before you do some shopping in China, pls be aware that not everything in China is cheap, in fact they are of quite the same price as you buy in any other developing coutry. Cheap in price means cheap in quality.

We are a professional office suite designed for professionals and businesses who are interested to explore the China market. We work as partner, in providing fully furnished office and desk spaces, computer and comprehensive support service, so you can focus on your core business, to identify and capture the business opportunity in China.

Price:
Our charges per cubicle start from US$100 per month, with discount for long term lease.

Our all-inclusive pricing on offices and cubicles include, all necessary office furnishings, such as furniture, phone, online and hard copy fax, printer, internet access and even include computer and internet phone, which you can call the phone of 18 countries free of charge.

We try to arrange everything for you, even include computer, so you do not need to bother to invest extra resources in buying office equipment, when you have not yet determined your long-term strategy in China.

Our Executive Office Suite helps foreign companies to get office space in Guangzhou quickly and cost effectively. With us, there is never a surprise charge. We would not nickel and dime you for every little thing you do at our executive office suite space. We are keenly sensitive to the pressure and cost of managing a business. You have enough to worry about starting a business in China. We work in an all inclusive business model, you pay one fee and you get a comprehensive service.

Our professional and cost effective cubicle workstations are a great e.g. of the all-inclusive pricing model. You only need to pay US$100, an incredibly low monthly fee and get everything you need for your office, printer, fax internet access, conference room, Chinese internet searching service, interpreter and more.

Use your time wisely
Time is the most valuable asset to small businesses. Don’t waste time on non-value adding activities, such as troubleshooting internet problems and telephone lines. Don’t spend time fixing fax machines or printers, you can forget about office facility issues. Experience tells, these minor hassles would turn out to be unbearable trouble for non-Chinese speaking newcomer in China.

Working as Partners
We will manage all office facility issues while keeping your office overhead very low.

What really differentiate us is: we offer highly valuable secretarial services to help you to bridge the language barrier, include but not limit to: doing smart and intelligent search on internet to help you to identify valuable market information about China market in Chinese language, identify potential business partners, agents, distributors, analysis your human resource need and help you to recruit the right staff and even take care of the logistics issue when you need to source some product back home while you are not in town.

Location
Our office is located next to the largest convention center in Guangzhou, Baiyun International Convention Center and Guangzhou Stadium, with first class Chinese and western restaurant next to our office.

Our office is located in the northern part of Guangzhou, and 5 minutes from Guangdong Foreign Language University, i.e. the largest foreign language university in Southern China, which allow our tenant to hire English speaking part time staff easily, which we believe is critical for small foreign companies. As many of them would like to work with part time or temporary staff, before they make the commitment to hire full time staff in China.

In order to charge the most cost effective prices, we do not choose to set up our office in city center, we are 30 minutes from Guangzhou East Station or CBD such as Tianhe District, Garden Hotel, China Hotel or Pazhou Exhibition Center. So, you need to decide if you mind to spend 30 minutes per day to commute from our office to city center.

FAQ for selecting office in China.
With so many different office space options available, finding the right office space can be daunting. Should you get a serviced or furnished office space? Should you lease your office directly? What are the differences between all these office space options? Find out more right here.

What are the pros and cons of serviced office suite?
Pros
You do not need to bear all the hassle in setting up an office in China, which is a terrible experience.

Besides, at the time, when you are facing tons of uncertainty, include not sure about if your service or product would be well accepted in China, not sure if you should focus on Southern or Northern China, Not sure if you should focus on Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Shenzhen, not sure if you can shift part of the office function from your home town to China, not sure if you can find the right staff in Guangzhou, not sure if you would rapidly expand in future, not sure if you would like to set up a decent and well decorated office in Grade A office building to impress your client or try to use the most cost effective office solution, so you can have more time to decide your long term strategy.

At the time, when you are not sure about the location, size of your office, of course, it is hard to make the long term commitment of signing a 2 year lease. By using the executive office suite, you have the complete freedom to decide the no. of workstation you would like to lease and you can decide the terms which ranges from 1 month to 2 year.

Cons:
The greatest problem in using an executive office suite is: you cannot register your own company in China.

One of the very strange regulation in China is: you have to offer a formal leasing contract in order to apply for registration of your own company, which most of the executive office suite is not able to offer such contract.

Therefore, if you have full commitment in China and are 100% sure about your future strategy, include your size, scale, positioning of your business, you should lease your own office directly.

What are the pros and cons of OUR service office suite space?

Pros:
The most cost effective office solution you can find in Guangzhou.

Our charges are just a fraction of price compare with other business center in downtown.

Instant local knowledge and instant professional staffing
By leasing our office, you would be able to work with our professional team who have excellent understanding of China market and western way of thinking. (If you have spent some time in China, you would understand how difficult it is to find people who speak the same language with you). We are the subsidiary of an established consultant firm who has excellent information search, so you should be able to tap into the talent of established consultant in China.

Great consideration to small business
We fully understand as a foreign small businessman, you face lots of uncertainty in entering this new market and the least you want is to spend huge resources in buying all sorts of fixed asset and you are eager to minimize your initial investment. Therefore, we even include computer in all inclusive package, so you do not need to worry about depreciation of your IT investment and go through the hassle of moving the IT equipment when you set up your own new office.

Due to the shortcoming of not able to register a company in these executive office suite, we only recommend those who are new to the market, and would like to spend 6 months to 1 year to test the market and their staff, to use the executive office suite as a temporary office solution.

Cons:
We have to confess we cannot offer a prestigious office address, so if you would like to impress your business partner with a Grade A office building location, then we would make you disappointed.
Besides, we are not close to the popular bars and cafes of expatriate community, so if you are looking for an office, which you can go downstairs and hang out every night , then again, we would not meet your criteria.
