Here is the patch for details-accounts.docbook.  I have also attached
the new newinst.png.

The issues in my previous mail (IBAN vs BIC) still need to be addressed.

Is there any reason this section does not explicitly describe setting
up checking or savings accounts?

In the section on loan accounts, there is a sentence "Compounding is
where the interest is added to the amount owed on the loan so that when
the interest is next calculated there will be more interest paid on the
interest."  I'm not sure I follow this - should it be "... there will
be less interest paid on the principle, since it has decreased." ??

My final questions are about editing accounts.  The last sentence under
editing accounts says "Alternatively the account details can be changed
through the Ledgers view via the Account Details button in the command
frame."  This is only one of two places in the entire manual that
mention "command frame" which is not defined anywhere.  I assume the
command frame is the area in the view below the main display, but in
the ledger, I don't see any Account Details button.  Am I missing it,
or has it been removed?

My other issue about editing is that the description of editing account
details seems not to apply to loans.  When I try to edit a loan
account, I get the loan wizard, not a dialog with the account details.
A few weeks ago, I spent a lot of time just trying to find out what
interest rate I had used to set up a loan.  Should this section at
least mention this issue?

Jack

Hmm, maybe because there is only this one page and for credit cards you see a
second one?

No. It's about interest to be paid on interest. Assume you have a loan and you
will be charged interest every month, but only pay principal every three
months. Then for the first and second month your dues rise and thus your
interest for the next month. Only after the third month when the principal is
lowered it will be less than in the beginning (hopefully).

It has been removed. There's only the account edit button and the menu entry.

Yes. That's right.

That certainly would be helpful.

First - I"ll go on to other chapters now, and return to this on after
you apply all or part of the patch, and I understand you will not use
the screenshot I sent.  Another thing to consider putting somewhere in
the docs, although I'm not sure where (near the beginning, I think) is
some statement about the differences in banking in different
locations.  I suppose this is only critical for on-line banking, but in
that area, it seems there is a lot more available in Europe than in the
US.

As I understand, the BIC and Routing Number are then correct on the new
institution page (at least in theory only until any of this is actually
used for on-line banking in the future).   The only thing still
critical is to change IBAN to BIC on this page, and change the
reference to the wikipedia page.  The account page should then have
both account number and IBAN - but in fact I only just paid attention
now that these are both on the first page of the new account process.
The possibly confusing part is that particular page is labeled
"institution" since you also pick the institution for the account.  I
think this is ok - but when I return to this page, I'll add an
explanation of account number and IBAN (with the other wikipedia link)
in the paragraph above the new institution screenshot.

Actually - the more I think about it, the new institution screenshot
and explanation should be moved to the previous chapter (on
Institutions) and only a reference to that here, if you need to create
a new institution for the account you are creating.

This is not just because you only pay principle every three months, but
because you don't even make the interest only payment in between.  This
can also happen if the interest can rise but there is a limit on the
increase in monthly payment.  (I actually had a mortgage like that once
- it was not pretty...)  It does make sense now.

Than that will also need editing.

Am I correct that the only way to see the current interest on a loan is
to edit the loan, say you are going to modify the interest rate, go
through all the screens until you get to the interest, and then cancel
the edit?

I guess after I do a few more chapters, I'll come back to this one and
the previous one.

I am not so sure about that. It might not be more, but it certainly is
different. We need to use BIC and IBAN for all inter-european transfers, so I
guess we added the fields primarily for reference. I use to look up the
numbers in KMyMoney when making transactions via the bank's web-interface.

Yes, I forgot to mention that you only make payments every three months

That could well be. We haven't touched this area in a long time.

Sounds good. Keep sending updates. We'll keep adding them to the repository.
