I suspect this question has been asked many times - but after several hours of searching on the internet - I have yet to find a clear, simple, definitive answer.
I've installed egroupware 1.6.001 - and I've also set up the WebDAV Server through PEAR (version 1.0.0.RC4) - and I can upload and change the permissions on files in filemanager quite easily... but when I try to access the files, the only listing I get (in a pop-up window) is the following:
Index of /
Size Last modified Filename
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0 2009-06-16 11:33:51 apps
0 2009-06-16 11:33:51 home
Neither link of which is actually accessable; they seem to go nowhere.
I'm certain this has been solved, but despite my best efforts - I'll be damned if I can find a clear solution to the problem.
I am experiencing a similar problem with the exception that I get a blank new window when trying to access the file. I am using Ubuntu 9 with default dependencies installed
I know I'm grasping at straws, but I'm going to try a complete reinstall tonight.
Originally I set this up within a subdomain (ie- egroupware.mydomain.com)... so I'm going to see what happens if I just make it subordinant to my main domain (ie- www.mydomain.com/egroupware).
Once again - probably a stretch... but I figure its worth the attempt. I'll let you know what happens.

I agree... reinstall shouldn't make a difference; however I dont have 100% confidence in the subdomain setup... so I'm eliminating the last possibility that I can think of.

Anyway a reinstall usually changes nothing.

Unfortunately I'm rapidly approaching the point where the cost of effort is outweighing the advantage of using eGroupware; I'm already weeks behind with what I expected to be a simple deployment.
Its regrettable, because I'm going to have to switch to a commercial product (most of the other OpenSource ones aren't doing it for me)... and this is a government contract (in a shop that is open to OpenSource) - so it would be good to showcase something relatively mature and flexible... but not if its being this much of a pain to launch.
I dont have a tech staff; I'm just a lone consultant that has to "prove" this works before they'll actually assign someone sufficiently technical to make it work.
There's government reasoning for you...

I am surprised that after all these years eGroupware has never addressed

Depends on how technically wise you are. I also tried and here, it works
fine!

OpenSource is not a synonym for welfare. It is the idea of contribution.
You can use it without contributing, but then please don't complain. If
you want to improve, you have to invest time or money.
As an alternative, use a web hoster which gives you access to the PHP
configuration, this usually makes much more sense and is comparably
expensive.
Actually, egroupware *can* be installed in 15 minutes (including backup
use) - if the system around is not tweaked too much because of a hosted
environment. For restricted hosted environments, the need for adaption
arises, see also the common open_basedir problem...
For a proove of concept, you could also use an existing shared
eGroupware hosting or ask someone more technical for the setup.
Best regards,

FINALLY... something clear that I can use. I tried googling this most of the day yesterday, and there is a mountain of useless information... most of which either didn't apply or didn't work.
I'll try changing the Apache directive AcceptPathInfo.

I've tried all three options; ON and DEFAULT resulted in the same behaviour as before. OFF resulted in a 404 error.
So, essentially, I still have no solution.

I've managed to get my webhost converted from FastCGI to regular CGI. The WEBDAV is now working - but it wants a USERID and PASSWORD.
I assume this is yet another poorly documented feature; what do I do? Searing the internet is yeilding yet another mound of crap.
Can anyone provide some suggestions - other than switch to WebEx Office?
S.
I've tried all three options; ON and DEFAULT resulted in the same behaviour as before. OFF resulted in a 404 error.
So, essentially, I still have no solution.

FINALLY... something clear that I can use. I tried googling this most of the day yesterday, and there is a mountain of useless information... most of which either didn't apply or didn't work.
I'll try changing the Apache directive AcceptPathInfo.

I have a similar situation with fcgid.
With fcgid, I always get the request popup window to give userid and
password in a neverending loop.
At least, it is working, except the pure webdav access.

Yes... I've discovered that simply cancelling the login request opens my files... so at least its usable... but annoying. I dont get full WebDav access either.
Obviously I have some kind of mystery access list to build/integrate with eGroupware... but, as with all my other searches, there is a mountain of documentation... most unrelated to what I am doing.
This really is a shame - because I quite literally have tried about 50 groupware packages - both commercial and Open Source, and this one really does offer 99% of what I want... but it needs a little polish.
I was originally hoping to feature it as one of the preferred groupware packages in my new project management book - but with these recent installation problems - I'm not certain if its a good idea.
Is the objective to push us all towards the commercial solution, or am I just too much of a lunkhead to manage/support the system - and I really need a team/specialist or two?

There seems to be a problem with session management or "Basic Auth" on
your server or using fcgid. Does the rest of the groupware work
(basically, can you log in without re-login each time?)
Maybe, also post this to the developer list to maybe include this (or
some piece of information) into the main eGroupware software.

P.S.: You may consider switching to a hoster who provides mod_php within
apache. That solution obviously cuts significantly less legs off from
what PHP could be able to do.

Yes, everything working like a charm, no problem, but using dav is not
working due to this basic auth problem. I can imagine that the whole isp
system has this side effect, I will continue to fix this issue.

We spent some time about this, but we stopped.>

In fact, I am the hosting provider and I force fcgid instead of mod_php ;)
Anyway, using openvz container I have no problem to use egw, even webdav is
working quite well (openoffice cannot open files, but I am able to
read/write those directories).
