As a system administrator i don't look at websites apart google and
wikipedia. ;)
Most of my users say me that they cannt anymore use the 'edit mode' of
sitemanager after migrating to 1.6.
I logon everytime with the main egw site, and works.
My users logon by the way of the sitemger login box, and effectively
the edit mode are disabled, but because the 'sitemgr site inside egw'
are not even authenticated.
AFAI've understood the troble can come from these settings in admin ->
site configuration:
+ Use cookies to pass sessionid:
+ Cookie path (allows multiple eGW sessions with different directories,
has problemes with SiteMgr!):
+ Cookie domain (default empty means use full domain name, for SiteMgr
eg. ".domain.com" allows to use the same cookie for egw.domain.com and
www.domain.com):
+ Check IP address of all sessions (switch it off, if users are randomly
thrown out: "Your session could not be verified.")
but really i don't undersand how to set them... now i have 'yes' as the
fist answer, 'Document root (default)' as the second, empty the third
and 'No' for the latter.
Also, i've egw and sitemanager in two virtualhosts, both have:

I ran recently into the same issue. The problem is linked to cookies. Basically, you should either use Egw, either visit and edit web site, but not both. The solution is to put a 'login' block on your web site. Disconnect from Egw, try to log into the Web site. If it works, put it in edit mode, and go further. If it doesn't, purge all session cookies from the Web site, and reload the current page. If you get back to Egw login screen, do not use it, but reload the Web site main page, that is, remove every parameter from the browser URL.
To achieve this, install Web Developper extension to firefox or seamonkey, or exit and relaunch your browser, purging the cookie cache.

Clearly i know that this is a cookie trouble, i'm simply asking how to
fix it. ;)
What you are explaining are good workaround i effectively use, but i'm
seeking feedback on my egw/apache2 configuration, and possibly fix it.
