em8300 and Atheros drivers conflictWere you all aware that the em8300 drivers and the Atheros WiFi drivers
conflict? I have a Hollywood Plus and a Hewlett-Packard Atheros 802.11a/b/g PCI WiFi card, and I cannot get the two to coexist, no matter what OS I use (Fedora 9/10 or Windows XP Professional SP3), no matter what slots I install them in my computer, and no matter as to the automatic or manual assignment of IRQs in the motherboard BIOS. I e-mailed Atheros Communications, as they still participate in the development of drivers for their chips, but they refused to do anything with my report. Today I sent an e-mail to Sigma Designs, but they probably won't be able to do much about the Windows drivers (which my roommates use on the entertainment PC), since they are no longer in development. The silly thing is that Atheros and Sigma are teamed up working on new devices, whilst their older devices still conflict! If this turns out to not be a driver code issues, and if you have any ideas as to other settings that I might try to get the two cards to coexist, I would really appreciate it. As far as I am concerned, I had no idea about that. Can you please describe more precisely what happens? Re: em8300 and Atheros drivers conflictHey Nicolas,
Not much can be said. If the drivers for either of the two cards aren't installed, the cards coexist without a problem. Once the drivers are loaded, the system undergoes a hard lockup, and must be turned off. I'd give you a log file or something, but I don't have one available right now, and something tells me that it won't have anything useful in it. But would you like me to try anyway? If I understand it correctly, your computer works fine when both cards are installed if their drivers are not. It still works fine when you load the first driver and use your card, and then it locks up when you load the second driver. Is that correct? And the same problem happens both with linux and with Windows, right? Then it really sounds like a hardware problem. Have you had the opportunity to test this with several different mainboards? Have you seen reports of the same problem by other people? If this is not a hardware problem, then it might be intersting to see what the kernel logs when you load the em8300 driver after the other driver...
