I'm trying to translate eGroupWare.I have already translated a couple of eGroupWare's Applications such as-Calendar.I used the "Developer Tools" for the Translation.
My problem is that when i open my lang file,in the setup folder in Calendar,I don't see the Translated in my language string. In its place I see encoded text.
The English string is shown normally.
This is how it appears.
{{
%1 %2 in %3 calendar el %1 %2 σε %3
%1 email addresses inserted common el %1 διευθύνση e-mail Καταχωρήθηκε
%1 is not executable by the webserver !!! common el %1 Δεν είναι εκτελέσιμο απο τον WebServer
}}
I want to be able to see the translated strings in normal text instead of coded text so that I can make any spelling corrections using a word editor, faster and more accurate.
Is there any way I can achieve this?
Is there some programme that can convert the encoded text to my language?
Thanks alot in advance
Best Regards

Do you mean the Setting of charset while translating the phpgwapi?I have set the charset for the "Destination Language" in the Translation Tools in the the Section of phpapi, first of all.
My translations work fine in the environment of egroupware(-in the egroupware site on my pc).
My problem is when I open : \calendar\setup\phpgw_el.lang for all applications.-instead to see the translated phrases I only get ### and 3-digit numbers and ; .
I want to do this in order to make some final spelling corrections with a spelling checker so as to be sure that there are indeed no mistakes.
This encoded text for Greek language I want to see it normally-that is, not encoded with ## and so on.
1)The "destination Language" is Greek with the charset : "ISO-8859-7" and
2)at the Setup page it says that both English and Greek are curently installed and that the Current system-charset is 'iso-8859-1'.

I'm not sure to understand what you mean when you say "open" the file.
You don't "open" the file, I guess you mean "I choose to translate
calendar in translation tools, using 'el' as destination language", and
you see there the encoding problem. I suggest to go to /setup, and in
the check installation form, check possible warnings about mbstring.
If this is your problem, I guess it must be something related to your
installation, because in my installation I see "perfect strange" greek
symbols in translation tools. I've also logged in using choosing greek
as language, and it all looks greek symbols to me, including calendar
app. There's something wrong in the javascript calendar with non-ascii
characters, but this happens in spanish, too, so I don't think it's the
problem you describe.

The first is ok. The second means just the charset for apps, not ui, but
I think that also means that you installed first english alone and then
your language. Anyway, you can change the used charset by following this
article:
Regardless of your issue, and to remember to anyone who is not aware, I
exposed the core devs to fully switch all to utf-8 for egw 2.0 (or
possibly next stable release after 1.4, if any), whenever it is to be
released, together with renaming of lang files from phpgw_*.lang to
egw_*.lang, so many problems disappear. There wasn't a *full* *explicit*
"yes" but nothing against it, so I took it like a "yes, if we see it
works with no regressions". I've been (and still am) somehow busy, but
maybe I ask again and next weekend (in about ten days) I could dedicate
the necessary time to do at least the renaming for trunk.
I'm not sure if I contacted you for an account at my site, so please
mail me privately if I didn't, to give you the necessary details.
Regards.

Well,I must have written the problem with the coded text a bit confusing ...Sorry for this..
Well what I wanted to say is that:
When I open my Web Browser (Mozilla) and type localhost/egroupware and then sign in egroupware,, I don't have any problem when I'm writing-translating in the developer tools. There everything is right. The greek text appears normally.
My problem appears when I follow the path C:\ ....\egroupware\calendar\setup\phpgwapi_el.lang in the egroupware folder that has been created during instalation.(The phpgwapi_el.lang is in the egroupware Root file )
When I click on the phpgwapi_el.lang of each application's setup folder (-let's say calendar-) It shows ##and numbers.
This encoded text I want to be able to see in normal greek text instead of encoded.
What Program do you use to open the file? I' m also translating the greek files, use Notepad++ with windows and non unicode system setting=greek and have no such problem.

Yes, and out totally of egw scope. Let me blame you a bit for this :)
You should never do that and it's not supported. It's a text file with
no charset header and the browser can't guess the charset. Solution? Go
to view->charset (more or less, I don't use english mozilla) menu in
your browser menu toolbar and locate iso-8959-7, and you'll see it all ok.
Regards.

I have already done this but doesn't work neither for anyone of greek ISOs nor for the UTF.
The reason I want to open this text file is so that I can correct any mispelled phrases more quickly and for sure, while using a spelling checker.
In order to do so,however I have to open the "_el.lang text file " which I find in my computer when following the path " C:\ ....\egroupware\calendar\setup\phpgwapi_el.lang " so that I can correct the spelling.
Thus you understand that I have already tried to open it with a simple notepad, word and the ultraedit.
I have already tried to open it through the browser as you mentioned now but none charset works.
What can I do in order to see the normal greek text,in the text file ?
