extension upload

Hi,
I keep getting 'Connection Interrupted' when I try uploading my new
extension release. Is anyone seeing similar probleme?

I know that my Internet connection is not really good: Several pages
load very slowly, sometimes never...

Even if I managed to download your magic extension tonight, I get
"Connection refused" at the moment.

Perhaps there is some work in progress that has to be done without
public access?

I was able to upload a new version of Trevor Hitching's Alpha Blocks [1]
without problems. Do you still have problems?

Yes I'm still having problems. In fact more. I eventually managed to
upload 2 more but one ended up with the wrong file (probably my bad).

Now I'm stuck with 2 extension releases called 'Clipart - Praise Words
1.0.0'. I have unpublished one but there is no way to remove anything.
Which I find very annoying.

Any how I eventually manage to do it but it take many tries. I suspect
it's a timeout issue but I have not way to know without seeing the
logs.

Note that in only does that for extensions.services.openoffice.org. I
have no problem uploading to wiki.services.openoffice.org.

Vanuatu(where I live) being an island state relies on satellite
communication as such we have pretty horrible latency so things like
that an happen is a remote server is not patient enough.

list (dev@...) or IRC (#ooo-ext).

In the meantime I have managed to upload most of them. It took a while
but i seems to work. If anyone can download them to confirm all the
paths are good I'd be grateful. Comment on the icons are also
welcomed.

I can't comment much on the icon design - they are exactly what we need:
high quality and well looking clipart.

The ones I had a closer look at are large scale raster images, so they
can be enlarged without too much quality loss.

Once we'll have a high quality SVG support, we should switch to vector
images, but for the moment (even with the new antialiasing) most of the
vector images I've seen (or created) don't look very professional...

Until then we'll have to work with the larger file sizes...

I noticed that you didn't change the names given to the clipart when you
drag&dropped it to the gallery. So they still read "dd2152" and so on.

As you gave appropriate names to the trick_n_magic clipart, you know
that - don't know if it looks better, if the medals are called "gold
with red ribbon" , "silver 2" or something like that.

But one thing i mentioned: The thumbnail on the extension page doesn't
contain the ribbons without medal even if they are part of the package.
Perhaps it would be reasonable to add there that people may build their
own medal from the different medals and ribbons.

And perhaps you could add the link to the shapes clipart as well on the
extension page as in the extension's description. If people would be
interested in a green medal for example, they could use your other
extension.

If the clipart will become vector based one day, both of the galleries
might become one - as they won't need so large files then.

But you might consider to include both galleries in one extension (if
you don't think a download/extension of 4 MB would be too large), so
they could be downloaded and installed together.

One additional point:
The extension is called "shinny shapes" - and the gallery read  the
same. I'd change it to "shiny" as you already did at the extension website.

This extension has got an icon at the extension manager. If you want to
provide one for the medals too (you didn't by now), perhaps the dark red
might be misinterpreted as bronze, what might lead to the loose of the
"additional colors" info at first sight.

PS: If we really get lots of clipart, I'd prefer sorting them by topic
instead of by artist. In my eyes the artwork galleries should serve the
user to get what he/she wants more than the artist to present his/her
work. But that's only my personal opinion...

I export everything at 300dpi. It makes for large printable images.
The idea is that for things like the Praise words teachers could
printer them on sticky paper and used them in class.

Same for the award ribbons. People could make certificates and print
them with a high quality ribbons on. Asin the following screen shot.

Agreed current SVG support needs work. However I only draw with
Inkscape so everything is already available in SVG

That has been fixed in 1.0.3 I just can't upload it.

Agreed but I was just thinking it really wasn't work the effort.

I probably will name everything in later revision but right now I'll
just focus on packaging everything. Users simply have to update their
extension to get the latest release.

I can't upload it. I can on the wiki side. But not the teaser image on
the extension page.

I'd rather have them separate as you can choose to use the other
shapes as bullets or on their own for other purpose. As with the stars

All the latest version of the extensions have an icon in the extension
manager. Again. I'm having problems uploading.

As for the choice of red you may be right. I will change the icon for
green or blue which offers greater contrast with colors from the Award
Ribbons extension.

Sure I only organised it that way because it's seemed cleaner. I don't
have any particular attachment to how things are categorised as long
as they are organised.

Thanks for all the comment. I'll correct a few more thing and keep
trying to upload.

BTW:  I have package the 5 extension into a single .deb package and
this made me think that having an openoffice.org-extra-clipart might
be another way to approach to things.
