I live in Michigan. This past weekend, I came across a fresh array of feathers on the ground. They were on a path in brushy woods. From the size of the feathers and the colors, they would appear to be a bird of prey. A guess from another listserv suggested a Screech Owl. There are three photos of some of the feathers here:
http://tinyurl.com/3a5y92I have tried in vain to look online for what would be the longest feathers of a Screech Owl. The feather that was the longest was almost 8.5 inches long. The colors in the photographs as seen on my computer are pretty accurate with the whitest feathers being very white, with just a few feathers rusty tipped.
Any suggestions? Or maybe just a confirmation of the Screech Owl guess?
