file setsI succesfully loaded the cd40.iso kernel on my machine. I configured everything but I bypassed the step "configuring a network" b/c I don't have an internet connection yet. In order to complete the install, the manual says I need to load file sets base41.tgz, etc41.tgz, and bsd, but the cd40.iso does not have these file sets. So I tried loading the file sets via a separate cd but the kernel doesn't recognize file sets (pathname defaults to 4.0/i386).
Then I try booting the cdrom40.fs which supposedly has all the files included. But I get a Caldera Dos 7.0 prompt. I don't know what to do from here... I will buy the official cd's b/c I want to support the project and make life easier, but I still would like to know what I'm doing wrong? Any help appreciated. |

You're not *really* trying to use a 4.0 cd (cd40.iso) to install a 4.1 system (base41.tgz), I hope? And yes, cd40.iso doesn't have install sets; it's just a minimal installer. There is no Caldera DOS anywhere near OpenBSD; you picked the wrong CD, failed to blank, it or whatever. What you are doing should work: 1. Get cd41.iso 2. Burn cd41.iso to a CD (as a CD image, but you did that right) 3. Boot from the CD 5. Eject CD 6. Insert CD with (4.1) sets (under 4.1/i386 for ease of use, or elsewhere) 7. Proceed with the install Joachim -- PotD: x11/xvkbd - virtual keyboard for X Window System |

Re: file setsBurn an CD from the cd40.iso file. That is bootable.
Burn another CD using e.g Writable CD in Windows, that is a plain data file CD, containing why not all the files in index.txt on the download site (or at least the file sets you need). For convenience place them in /4.0/i386/. That should do it. Boot from cd40, change to the other when installing the sets. Re: file setsno, sorry, I'm meant base40.tgz, etc40tgz, etc. My problem though is with step#6. I'm probably not creating the cd properly ( my cd contains files: base40, bsd, bsd.mp, bsd.rp, comp40, etc40, game40, man40, misc40, xbase40, xetc40, xfont40, xserve40, xshare40 in random order with no tree structure..). Should I create them with a tree 4.0/i386/base40, bsd, etc.? and if so, how do I do that?
thanks

Re: file setsOk I got it working..... I'm not sure if it was just by adding the index file or by treeing it right... but thanks all

I could never get the install program to "see" the files sets if they were in the root directory on cdrom. In your burning software, copy the directory containing sets to cdrom instead of the files in that directory. |

Re: file setsYep,
I downloaded these file sets to a windows folder I created (4.0/i386/...).I burned that 4.0 folder as a data file to a cd and everything worked.
