am I right in saying that currently in order to make a map in the default
style using a filter on the data, that one has to do the following:
1) perform a GetStyles request to get the SLD for the default style
2) build an ogc:Filter and put it into the SLD document
3) perform a GetMap request with the constructed SLD document from step 2
? Or am I missing something which will make this easier?
Many of the WMS products I know have done something vendor-specific to
make this more easy. For instance Geoserver has a CQL_FILTER parameter in
the GetMap request, and also Mapserver can do a similar thing with
variable substitution.
Would it not make sense to make it easier in the WMS spec to perform this
very common use case?
