> appears that the Postscript (level 3) being generated by the Firefox on
> my system is just really really messed up.
>
> I say this because I have been experimenting around, and I just ``printed''
> a particular web page (https://www.monoprice.com/home/myaccount.asp) to a
> disk file and then I tried to view that using ghostview/ghostscript and
> the text of the ``printed'' page is *still* entirely hosed.
>
> See for yourself! Here is the web URL again:
>
> https://www.monoprice.com/home/myaccount.asp
>
> and here is the Firefox-printed version of that same page:
>
> http://www.tristatelogic.com/misc/monoprice.ps
>
> Please _do_ try looking at that with any kind of postscript-aware thing
> you have available to you (e.g. ghostview) and you'll see that the text
> is *seriously* messed up to the point where it is entirely unreadable.
>
> NOTE: My installed versions of ghostview/ghostscript are:
>
> ghostscript-gpl-8.62_3
> ghostview-1.5_2
>
> I am assuming that these tools *do* know how to properly process Postscript
> level 3 documents... such as the kind that are allegedly coming out of
> Firefox when one tries to printe a web page... so if I look at the ``printed''
> file with these tools, and if the pages are still all messed up (as they are)
> then it must be because Forefox itself is just plain outputting garbage, right?
>
> So I'm back to square one, and I still need to know: How do I debug this
> problem?

I see. I was loking better at my prints and I also notice some problems
with certain fonts. It loks like a font problem to me. Like some font
commonly used in web pages is rendered in print by some bitmap or
missing font by firefox.

In your case the problem is exacerbated...For some reason I really don't
understand.

> P.S. To be honest, it is stunning to me that whoever did the port of Firefox
> 3.5.1 to FreeBSD allowed that port to make it into the ports tree when, it
> seems, the bleepin' thing can't even print a simple web page.
>
> (And by the way, who is "gecko@..." anyway? Is that a real person,
>
>I was having similar problems with an HP printer. A network one in my
>case. I'm using lpr with a filter. It used to send postscript verbatim
>to the printer and filter text through a2ps.
>
>I was having problems with bad fonts and paper sizes(I'm in europe and
>we use A4 here, but the printer insisted in using US letter).
>
>All the problems vanished when I finally modified the filter to also
>filter all ps through ghostscript and send pcl jobs to the printer.
>My guess is that the printer's postscript interpreter is broken(or has
>some "features"). Try modifying your script to filter things through
>ghostscript and send trhen to the printer in it's own language.
>
>I use the following ghostscript command line(from stdin to stdout...):
>
>/usr/local/bin/gs -dSAFER -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -q -sPAPERSIZE=a4
Greetings,

I recently freshened up my installed version of Firefox from whatever
crusty old version I was running to firefox-3.5.1,1. (I'm running
FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE by the way.)

Anyway, ever since that ``upgrade'' a few old problems that had annoyed
me for a long time went away, but a couple of new ones emerged.

The one that's most annoying is that now, whenever I print anything
from within Firefox, the text portion of whever comes out on my printer
is utterly unreadable/illegable. I'm just guessing, but it looks to
me like whatever font is being used is just wrong and/or (perhaps)
Firefox is trying to emulate BOLDFACE font with overstrikes or something.

Anyway, this is really a very major major problem for me, and I'm sorta
hoping that somebody here will take pity on me and give me some clues
about how I might be able to debug this problem. I don't even know where
to begin looking for the problem, so any pointers would be greatly
appreciated.

(Note: My printer is an old HP Laserjet 5MP. It speaks Postscript

Again, any help or pointers would be appreciated. Please reply on-list,
may prevent me from ever seeing your response.

Hello

I'm just wondering if there's a reason why Firefox-2 still is a
dependency for several ports. I've been using Firefox-3 for quite some
time and still I have to upgrade and compile firefox-2 because some of
my ports depends on it.

Thanks
>Severity:	serious
>Priority:	high
>Category:	ports
>Class: change-request
>Release:	FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE amd64
>Environment:

System: FreeBSD radziecki.saper.info 7.0-STABLE FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE #7: Fri Jul 11 17:35:27 CEST 2008 saper@...:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/VAIO amd64

Using Seamonkey 1.1.11, same with older version (at least as old as 1.1.8)

>Description:

After installing XPI generated via the mail/enigmail-seamonkey (you have to install as
root otherwise it does not work) the interface contains OpenPGP menus and preferences.

Any attempt to use OpenPGP features results in the message "Enigmail Service Not Available" in the console log. The problem is that libenigmime.so does not get installed. Once you put
it per hand in /usr/local/lib/seamonkey/components, everything works.

>How-To-Repeat:

Make sure /usr/local/lib/seamonkey does not exist.

Install clean seamonkey, then install mail/enigmail-seamonkey port.

Start the browser as root and open /usr/local/share/enigmail/enigmail-0.95.6-seamonkey-freebsd-amd64.xpi.

Install enigmail.

Start the browser as root again to have all the components registered.

Start the browser as the normal user and try to do any sign/encrypt/key management operation.

>Fix:

I have posted a more detailed discussion and two possible fixes here:

http://saper.info/enigmail_service_not_available

One of the possible patches in included below, should be put in the "files/" directory:

Hi all.
I have a problem with java applets and Firefox. This is the current
installation on my PC:

- FreeBSD 6.2
- apache 2.2
- tomcat 5.5.17
- firefox 2.0
- diablo-jdk 1.5.0.07.01.
All the packagea have been installed with pkg_add -r (excepted diablo,
installed with pkg_add from my HD).

When I tried first to execute a very simple java applet, I received an
error message "Missing Plugin - application/x-java-vm".
I followed a suggestion and I created a link like this:
#cd usr/local/lib/browser_plugins
#ln -s /usr/local/jdk1.5.0/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
After that I haven't received any error message, but, simply, java applets are
not executed at all, neither my simple trials nor the standard examples for
java runtime (like TicTacToe and so on).
When I go to "about:plugins" with firefox, I see that java environment is
active:
--------------------------------------------------
Java(TM) Plug-in diablo-1.5.0-b01

    File name: libjavaplugin_oji.so

When I go to "about:plugins" with firefox, I see that java environment is
active:

GPSI Announces Market Attack Into $1 Trillion Market!

Global Payment Solutions
Symbol: GPSI
Price: $0.03

GPSI announced its plans to address the huge influx of immigrant workers
into the US that need banking solutions that they otherwise would not
qualify for. This market is expected to represent over $1 Trillion
dollars to be managed by 2008. GPSI provides viable solutions to this
market. This is hot, read the news and watch for more Monday! Get on
GPSI first thing Monday!

A domain name not only represents your online identity, it can seriously
influence the success of marketing a company and its products and
services. The alternating magnetic field induces a current flow in the
electrically conductive object.
Further, we have introduced and provided some common views of the
heating effects. That which we call a rose by any other word would smell
as sweet. The holes allowing them to be mounted to standoff bolts were
melted and enlarged.
Never give a frostbite or hypothermia victim beverages containing
caffeine or alcohol. Such software is available only from the
manufacturer of the camera that created the file. It is unintentional
inductive heating that can cause mysterious damage in systems,
accidental electrocutions, and loss of monies.
I then connected the imager to my laptop and downloaded the stored
images to my disk drive. The majority of their business goes to
companies that have a professional web presence. When the pixels of an
FPA detector drift, their response to the radiant energy emitted by an
object changes. The holes allowing them to be mounted to standoff bolts
were melted and enlarged. Because uninsulated roofs do not provide a
long inspection window, thermographers should be prepared to inspect at
or slightly before sunset. Most computer software programs attach three
or four-letter extensions to file names when files are created. The bolt
on the left is cold while the bolt on the right is hot. Thermal imaging
can easily be used to observe the effects of intentional and
unintentional inductive heating. Two bolts are used to mount the flange
to the heater housing. Consider cabling between the source and coil, and
areas surrounding the source.
Typical extensions for image files include JPEG, BMP, GIF, and TIFF.
During the previous two weeks, I had noticed several malfunctions.
During the previous two weeks, I had noticed several malfunctions.
By providing prospects with information, your sales force can spend less
time educating prospects thereby freeing up valuable time for closing
sales. Power inverters are electrical devices that convert DC power from
a battery into conventional AC power.
By doing this I had unknowingly created new directories in the camera
which used up all available memory.
We are particularly excited about the prospect of offering the
first-ever Level III course in April.
Depending on the composition of the object, a number of things could
happen.
Typical extensions for image files include JPEG, BMP, GIF, and TIFF.
Upon further diagnosis the repair tech asked me if I had been adding
files to the camera.
In some cases, infrared inspections may provide similar data for
uninsulated roofs.
That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet. With
this Tip, we offer some advice for driving in winter conditions. During
the past decade, several manufacturers of thermal imagers have used
JPEG, TIFF, and BMP extensions to name image files created by their
thermal imagers. Thermal imaging can easily be used to observe the
effects of intentional and unintentional inductive heating.

Thunderbird 2.0: strange swap usage
        On this system:

FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #0: Tue Mar 13 22:38:20 EST 2007 i386

running the recent Thunderbird update, I've noticed a
interesting and reproducible pattern.
Before starting the program, swap (as reported by top) is 360m.
        Start the program:

        SWAP:	360m. SIZE:	88.7m RES:	46.5m

Open a connection to my newsserver and download message count
for ~15 groups (do not open individual groups):

        SWAP:	810m. SIZE:	697m RES:	182m

accompanied by _large_ amounts of disk activity.
(I just checked, and thos behavior is repeated under
SeaMonkey.)
        Quit Thunderbird, and return to:

        SWAP:	342m

and the process takes over 5 minutes with more pounding on the disks.

This does not feel right; Thunderbird 1.5 did not exhibit this
behavior, and it seems unreasonable simply downloading the message
count would bloat things up this much.
(make.conf and libmap.conf appended, in case something there is
causing this.)

                                Robert Huff
>> >> this message in console: /libexec/ld-elf.so.1:
>> >
>> > Are you using a binary package to install firefox or you build it
>> from source?
>> > ( i recommend the second method )
>> >
>> > What version of firefox are you exactly running ? ( I had no problem
>> >
>> > Did this version of firefox used to work or it always show this error.
>> > If it used to work then probably one of his dependencies got updated. I
>> >
>> > One more question: Did this happened when you added the flash plugin
>> > remember that flash9 showed some undefined symbol errors but they wore
>> > reported from the libflashplugin.so not from the firefox binary. You
>
> Are you using a binary package to install firefox or you build it from source?
> ( i recommend the second method )
> What version of firefox are you exactly running ? ( I had no problem with 1.5
> One more question: Did this happened when you added the flash plugin ? I
> remember that flash9 showed some undefined symbol errors but they wore

Mourners honored the firefighters killed by the California arson fire as the first of five funerals began Friday, and praised authorities for charging the man accused of starting that fire with murder.
Bush said Democrats calling for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq aren't unpatriotic, just wrong. He said Democrats who voted against legislation to detain and interrogate suspected terrorists, the National Security Agency's eavesdropping program and the Patriot Act don't understand the stakes in the war on terror.
Last week's fire was stoked by Santa Ana winds as it swept southwest through the mountains about 90 miles east of Los Angeles. The flames overran the fire crew, destroyed 34 homes and charred more than 60 square miles before being contained Monday.
Small planes could previously fly below 1,100 feet along the river without filing flight plans or checking in with air traffic control. The FAA said the rule change -- a temporary one -- was made for safety reasons.

[CALL FOR TESTERS] make the Flash7 plugin more stable.

Hi.

I found a idea to make the Flash7 plugin more stable.

        1. Please install ports/x11-fonts/cyberbit-ttfonts.
I think that almost users have no problem. Maybe non-ISO8859-1
users have a stability problem. Because the Flash7 plugin
           required following fontsets.

Nimbus Roman No9 L, Charter, Timmons, Lucidux serif, Luxi Serif,
Times New Roman, Bitstream Cyberbit, Nimbus Sans L, Helmet,
Helvetica, Lucidux sans, Luxi Sans, Arial, Courier,
Lucidatypewriter, Luxi Mono, Courier New, Kochi Gothic,
Kochi Mincho, Baekmuk Batang, batang, Baekmuk Dotum, dotum,
Baekmuk Gulim, gulim, Baekmuk Headline, headline, ZYSong18030,
AR PL KaitiM GB, ar pl kaitim gb, AR PL SungtiL GB,
ar pl sungtil gb, fangsong ti, FZSongTi, FZFangSongTi, FZHeiTi,
FZKaiTi, FZMingTi, AR PL KaitiM Big5, ar pl kaitim big5,
           AR PL Mingti2L Big5, ar pl mingti2l big5

Yes! These are TrueType fontsets. Maybe cyberbit font is
perfect solution. But I don't know other non-ISO8859
fonts are required. So please add your TrueType fontsets.

        2. Please edit your /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fs/config.
Add a following directory the first on catalogue line:
catalogue = /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/,......

Yes, the Flash7 plugin will search above fontsets from above
           file:-(.

If you feel stable Flash7, this solution is good. So I made
a patch to not apply manually above works. Please review
        fllowing patch.
