I see. I was loking better at my prints and I also notice some problems
with certain fonts. It loks like a font problem to me. Like some font
commonly used in web pages is rendered in print by some bitmap or
missing font by firefox.

In your case the problem is exacerbated...For some reason I really don't
understand.

This does not appear to explain the problem(s) I'm having. Rather, it
appears that the Postscript (level 3) being generated by the Firefox on
my system is just really really messed up.

I say this because I have been experimenting around, and I just ``printed''
a particular web page (https://www.monoprice.com/home/myaccount.asp) to a
disk file and then I tried to view that using ghostview/ghostscript and
the text of the ``printed'' page is *still* entirely hosed.

See for yourself! Here is the web URL again:

Please _do_ try looking at that with any kind of postscript-aware thing
you have available to you (e.g. ghostview) and you'll see that the text
is *seriously* messed up to the point where it is entirely unreadable.

I am assuming that these tools *do* know how to properly process Postscript
level 3 documents... such as the kind that are allegedly coming out of

I was having similar problems with an HP printer. A network one in my
case. I'm using lpr with a filter. It used to send postscript verbatim
to the printer and filter text through a2ps.

I was having problems with bad fonts and paper sizes(I'm in europe and
we use A4 here, but the printer insisted in using US letter).

All the problems vanished when I finally modified the filter to also
filter all ps through ghostscript and send pcl jobs to the printer.

My guess is that the printer's postscript interpreter is broken(or has
some "features"). Try modifying your script to filter things through
ghostscript and send trhen to the printer in it's own language.

Need help with major printing malfunction

Greetings,

I recently freshened up my installed version of Firefox from whatever
crusty old version I was running to firefox-3.5.1,1. (I'm running
FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE by the way.)

Anyway, ever since that ``upgrade'' a few old problems that had annoyed
me for a long time went away, but a couple of new ones emerged.

The one that's most annoying is that now, whenever I print anything
from within Firefox, the text portion of whever comes out on my printer
is utterly unreadable/illegable. I'm just guessing, but it looks to
me like whatever font is being used is just wrong and/or (perhaps)
Firefox is trying to emulate BOLDFACE font with overstrikes or something.

Anyway, this is really a very major major problem for me, and I'm sorta
hoping that somebody here will take pity on me and give me some clues
about how I might be able to debug this problem. I don't even know where
to begin looking for the problem, so any pointers would be greatly
appreciated.

Port dependencies on Firefox-2

Hello

I'm just wondering if there's a reason why Firefox-2 still is a
dependency for several ports. I've been using Firefox-3 for quite some
time and still I have to upgrade and compile firefox-2 because some of
my ports depends on it.

Using Seamonkey 1.1.11, same with older version (at least as old as 1.1.8)

Firefox won't start

Hi,

I have FreeBSD 6.3 and have installed the latest version of Firefox from ports(firefox-2.0.0.12,1 the native version), but it won't run.
I recompiled with DEBUG and LOGGING to see what the error message was.

Problems with java

Hi all.
I have a problem with java applets and Firefox. This is the current
installation on my PC:

- FreeBSD 6.2
- apache 2.2
- tomcat 5.5.17
- firefox 2.0
- diablo-jdk 1.5.0.07.01.
All the packagea have been installed with pkg_add -r (excepted diablo,
installed with pkg_add from my HD).

When I tried first to execute a very simple java applet, I received an
error message "Missing Plugin - application/x-java-vm".
I followed a suggestion and I created a link like this:
#cd usr/local/lib/browser_plugins
#ln -s /usr/local/jdk1.5.0/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
After that I haven't received any error message, but, simply, java applets are
not executed at all, neither my simple trials nor the standard examples for
java runtime (like TicTacToe and so on).
When I go to "about:plugins" with firefox, I see that java environment is
active:

The same applets are correctly executed - on the same PC - by konqueror; I
only had to modify Konqueror configuration changing java interpreter path
to /usr/local/bin/java.

Firefox in a Windows environment executes correctly all the apples.
Where is my mistake? Where can I find the solution?

Thunderbird 2.0: strange swap usage

On this system:

FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #0: Tue Mar 13 22:38:20 EST 2007 i386

running the recent Thunderbird update, I've noticed a
interesting and reproducible pattern.
Before starting the program, swap (as reported by top) is 360m.
Start the program:

SWAP: 360m. SIZE: 88.7m RES: 46.5m

Open a connection to my newsserver and download message count
for ~15 groups (do not open individual groups):

SWAP: 810m. SIZE: 697m RES: 182m

accompanied by _large_ amounts of disk activity.
(I just checked, and thos behavior is repeated under
SeaMonkey.)
Quit Thunderbird, and return to:

SWAP: 342m

and the process takes over 5 minutes with more pounding on the disks.

This does not feel right; Thunderbird 1.5 did not exhibit this
behavior, and it seems unreasonable simply downloading the message
count would bloat things up this much.
(make.conf and libmap.conf appended, in case something there is
causing this.)

I have firefox firefox-2.0_2,1 which hangs on startup:

I am running:

At the same time linux-firefox 2.0 works fine but I need natively build.

I tried to rebuild firefox but it did not help. Any ideas?

Well after four days :) Flash, Acrobat, RealPlayer are working
perfectly, good job all ;)

I have an question about JDK14. I installed JRE jdk version 1.4 with
patchset, i added an entry
to fstab with this line:

you want at least firefox-2.0_2,1 , if you have firefox-2.0_1,1
try updating and it should work.

are you sure libflashplayer.so is located
at /usr/local/lib/npapi/linux-flashplugin/ ?

In the tutorial i've wrote i manually unpack the library
in /usr/local/lib/firefox/plugins to avoid installing the port because it
depends on linux-base.

again make sure the path to the libflashplayer.so in your /etc/libmap.conf is
correct.

( i recommend the second method )

What version of firefox are you exactly running ? ( I had no problem with 1.5
and 2.0 )

Did you installed other plugins ?

The output of ldd //usr/local/lib/firefox/firefox-bin may be relevant.

Did this version of firefox used to work or it always show this error.
If it used to work then probably one of his dependencies got updated. I
suggest rebuilding firefox with all his dependencies .

One more question: Did this happened when you added the flash plugin ? I

reported from the libflashplugin.so not from the firefox binary. You can also

I found a idea to make the Flash7 plugin more stable.

1. Please install ports/x11-fonts/cyberbit-ttfonts.
I think that almost users have no problem. Maybe non-ISO8859-1
users have a stability problem. Because the Flash7 plugin
required following fontsets.

Nimbus Roman No9 L, Charter, Timmons, Lucidux serif, Luxi Serif,
Times New Roman, Bitstream Cyberbit, Nimbus Sans L, Helmet,
Helvetica, Lucidux sans, Luxi Sans, Arial, Courier,

Kochi Mincho, Baekmuk Batang, batang, Baekmuk Dotum, dotum,
Baekmuk Gulim, gulim, Baekmuk Headline, headline, ZYSong18030,

Yes! These are TrueType fontsets. Maybe cyberbit font is
perfect solution. But I don't know other non-ISO8859
fonts are required. So please add your TrueType fontsets.

2. Please edit your /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fs/config.
Add a following directory the first on catalogue line:
catalogue = /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/,......

Yes, the Flash7 plugin will search above fontsets from above
file:-(.

If you feel stable Flash7, this solution is good. So I made
a patch to not apply manually above works. Please review
fllowing patch.
