FreeBSD Newsgroups

The web site's /community/newsgroups.html page directs readers
specifically to two newsgroups:

comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.announce
comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc

I subscribed to the announce group last week expecting to see the
FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE announcement flow through from the freebsd-announce@
mailing list. It didn't. Yesterday I saw a Moderator Vacancy
Investigation (MVI) post in those newsgroups. The details in the post
showed that Jordan Hubbard (jkh@) is registered as the group's
moderator; and that a probe post to the moderator address
(jkh@<somewhere.else>) had bounced.

I guess this means that, failing any interest from present-day FreeBSD
folks, these FreeBSD newsgroups are likely to be removed. If the
newsgroups disappear, reference to them will need to be removed from the
web site and Handbook.

I wonder if the FreeBSD mailing list managers are interested in reviving
a mail-to-news gateway, for the announce list at least?

I thought this was as good a place as any to mention this. Hope I'm not
too far out of order.

Hi,

I was looking at http://www.freebsd.org/publish.html and it states:

"If you know of any additional FreeBSD publications/CDROMs let us know,
at www@... <mailto:www@...>, so that they may be added
to this site."

So I compared what's on the site to my collection of old FreeBSD CDs.
I'm guessing you're not interested in just plain version updates where
the artwork stays the same or only minor changes like the colour of the
'FreeBSD' text and deamons shoes
(http://www.sacre-bl.eu/freebsd/21112009193.jpg). But you're missing the
'The Power to Serve!' artwork where the FreeBSD daemon walks serving a
drink on a CD (http://www.sacre-bl.eu/freebsd/21112009190.jpg). As far
as I can tell this was only used for versions 3.1 and 3.2. Version 3.3
reverts back to the deamon walking out of the mirroring CD.

I could drop this (or any other copies I have) under a propper scanner
if interested.

Plus character in FreeBSD Ports Search query seems to break

Hello,

I was just trying to do a search for "objc++" on the FreeBSD Ports
Search
(http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=objc%2B%2B&stype=all&sektion=all)
and instead of showing any results it seems to have given up on
rendering the page after displaying the top section with the query box.
Is this a known problem?

The second of those issues is known, and there is already a PR open
about it. The first of them I'll take a look at soon - I've already
started fixing bugs in the script.

While trying to respond to ports/139975 I have forwarded a message
originally sent to maintainer. This was misinterpreted by GNATS as a new report,
possibly due to Fwd: instead of Re: in subject and ended up in ports/140508 ,
whose content was then migrated back to where it was intended.

Now, ports/139975 is missing content of the message and there is a
"for png, jpeg and others" misplaced just before message header.

I was looking for some files in cvsweb but it appears they are missing.
It was probably caused by svn move in trunk.

For example sys/netinet/ip_dummynet.c was moved to sys/netinet/ipfw/ip_dummynet.c
It is not visible on RELENG_7 branch with cvsweb (unless you look into Attic).
