I guess I can elaborate a bit more:

I've only started thing about this in the last couple of days. The consensus of the core team is that the flickr API is as good as any as a starting point. What services or what the urls will be still playing around with that.

What I haven't determined is whether it will be a direct clone of the api, or it will be slightly tweaked and customized for Gallery3.

My leaning is to be a close as possible, so I can leverage existing client code.

The remote module in contrib serves purely to act as a bridge for older
clients that already speak the Gallery Remote API. We intend to work on
a newer, cleaner API for Gallery 3. Don't build new systems on Gallery
Remote :-)

Please don't use any flat format as in gallery2 remote, it's very a pain to read !
XML or Json can be some better choices and there are many other alternatives

I did not install yet the remote module, I just had a quick look a the source code, mainly at the controller, gallery_remote.php:

and actually it reminded me of ... g2 remote API ! http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery_Remote:Protocol#login
well, that's pretty cool because, actual remote api-using softwares will be compatible, but on the other hand, I understood, reading
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:API that something like flickr style or REST api would be used...
Sure, I know it's very preliminary, and again, I thank you both for sharing this at such an early stage, it's really appreciated !
I'm looking forward to checking out new progress of the remote module !

I've done some preliminary work on a Gallery Remote module for G3. It's
lodged in a virtual machine on my laptop currently-- I'll try to get it
checked into contrib so that we can at least make some forward progress
on this task.

Anthony, great that you are trying to create a remote client, but unfortunately Gallery3 doesn't have a remote API yet.

We have an open ticket, https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/gallery/ticket/665, but that's not slated until release 3.1.

Can we move night_wind to contrib, please?

There are hundreds of lines of diffs between the two themes, and it's
slowing down my refactoring of the pagination code. Can we move it to
contrib and/or delete it for now? I don't think we're ready to carry a
2nd full theme at this point.

Yep, but whoever provides the CSS love, needs to be aware that where ever the button gets moved to they have to change the javascript to position the flash object above button.

In order to provide the CSS styling to the button that we want, the flash object is made transparent and sits on top of our styled button. So when you think you are clicking on the "Select Photo... "button; you are actually clicking the flash object, which allows it to open the file dialog.

Heads up... new photo uploader in G3

Hi everyone.

Just a heads up, there is a new photo uploader in g3. I've just rolled
the change for ticket #746 into the master code base. This replaces the
original flash uploader with a new one that allows simultaneous uploads.

I've been using mollom.com on a couple of sites and have been very happy with it, but we'd need to negotiate some kinda of deal with them so we don't have to pay them lots and lots.

Yeah I agree-- the spam sucks. I'm willing to enable Drupal modules if
somebody can do the legwork and figure out which ones are the most
effective.

at the moment. I'm blocking about 5-10 people a day currently.

Presuming that it it bots at work, is it possible to do anything to tighten
up the new user sign up process?

Most companies have an internal LDAP directory which we can use for
authentication. With the changes that Tim has made, we can now plug in
an ldap module to take advantage of that. The support for pluggable
authentication is in core, but the actual ldap module is off in the
contrib dir.

Here's what I propose:

1) Put "Identity providers" should go under Settings since the provider you use is a core setting.

2) If there's no User/Group administration, that menu option should go away. So it won't exist for LDAP, but it'll exist for core.

Purely from a support standpoint; having the terms modules and plugins inter-mixed in G2 has been quite confusing to a fair number of people. It's really hard for non-native English speakers when we call something a module, they are looking for that term and can't find it.

If we do make the change we need to make the change 100%., For example, if they are called 'plugins' the directory needs to be called plugins. It cannot just be a change in the UI as we did in G2. All documentation needs to be changed as well.

This approach worries me a bit because if you're using LDAP then it
always seems like you're using some funky UI to do normal stuff. Ie, I
don't think that Gallery 3 ui should present itself as a core with a
bunch of extensions. It should be a seamless whole.

Here's what I propose:
1) Put "Identity providers" should go under Settings since the provider
you use is a core setting.

2) If there's no User/Group administration, that menu option should go
away. So it won't exist for LDAP, but it'll exist for core.

In the case of the LDAP provider there is no admin ui. The parameters are set via a config file and user/group management are set external to Gallery3

Why couldn't 'User registration' go under the restored Users/Groups?

Doesn't really matter, but I was thinking, that way, User/Group takes you directly to the User/Group admin screen no sub menu but doesn't make sense. What might be a better solution is we change the menu compression code so if there is only 1 sub-menu, it gets promoted to the higher level.

The other thought, is if we are creating a new "high level" menu called extensions, would it make sense to to move the theme choice menu item. This way all the extension related stuff is under one high level menu.
