gdb on M54455EVB Linux

Has anyone had any success running gdb using the Freescale Linux BSP for the M54455EVB eval board?

 

I just get ‘illegal instruction’ when I try to run anything inside the debugger.

Hi Jim,

Could you describe the setup you are using? I'll look into this but I'd
like to make sure I'm following the same steps as you.

Problems with CodeWorrior Flash programmer

Hi All :)

I have a M52233DEMO board, in which I can successfully load software
with CF Flasher and everything works fine. I have tried to load the
software with CodeWarrior Flash Programmer and it does not work.
I'm using CodeWorrior 7. I create a new project for the M52233DEMO
choose the default connection to be P&E USB BDM Multilink after
next next next I choose Full Board Support and Easy Debug than I click
Finish and the project is created. After that for target I choose
INTERNAL_FLASH
and than Project -> Make. Everything passes well than I click Tools ->
Flash programmer -> Load Settings...
and choose MCF52233_INTFLASH.xml everything is OK so far. Than I click
Erase / Blank Check
choose All Sectors and click the Erase button and in the Status bar
appears "Initializing..........."
After a while I click Cancel - in the Status bar appears "Error: Getting
flash ID failed".
I have attached the USB Log if anyone has any idea why it doesn't work.

P.S. Sorry to bother you all with such a simple thing but I can't start
without it.

P.P.S. I have loaded the software with CF Flasher and tried just to
debug with CodeWorrior
but after setting everything in the debugger settings and click debug a
pop up window
displays: "Could not set PC to entry point".

I've tried everything from a couple of tutorials and everything I can
thing of with no success.
Hope someone has already worked out this problem :)

Thanks for your offer.  This is what I have done:

I am using the Freescale M54455EVB eval system, and the
m54455_20071214-ltib-final.iso BSP.  

I am running from an NFS image.  I have added gdb to the image (native
gdb and cross gdb and gdbserver).  

Then I try to run gdb.  For example,

/ # gdb /bin/sleep
GNU gdb 6.3.50.20051117
....
(gdb) run 1
Starting program: /bin/sleep 1

Program received signal SIGILL, Illegal instruction.
0x800980b2 in ?? ()
(gdb) x/i $pc
0x800140b2: orib #94, %d0
(gdb) x/4i $pc-4
0x800140ae: bras 0x80014060
0x800140b0: linkw %fp, #0
0x80040b4: unlk %fp
0x800140b6: rts

... In other words, it almost looks like the program counter has got out
of line by 2 bytes!
... I get the same problem with my own executables, (compiled with and
without debug symbols).

Hi guys

I have a question regarding uClinux 2.4.32 slab allocator.
I have a system (Coldfire 5208) with 16 mbytes of Ram and 8 Mbytes of
flash.
When the system starts, I have:
Memory available: 12800k/16383k RAM, 0k/0k ROM (896k kernel code, 275k
data) # free
        total:    used:    free:  shared: buffers:  cached:
Mem:  13139968  2695168 10444800        0   237568   249856

At this stage, if I do a cat /proc/slabinfo and I f I sum all the
buffers (all the buffers, not only the active ones), the total is about
2 Mbytes, that is not so far from the 2,6 Mbytes used given by "free".

Now if I run my application ( tcl interpreter), the sum of all the
buffers of /proc/slabinfo is about 6.5 Mbytes (!!) and free returns a
ram usage of 9.5 Mbytes.
=> I have lost 3 Mbytes.
Could someone tell me how to recover these Megabytes or where are they
located ?

Can you send the complete output of "cat /proc/slabinfo" , and
"cat /proc/meminfo" too.

The 2.6.25 patch out on www.bitshrine.org applies cleanly to the 2.6.23
M5445x kernel.
