# Thanks to your mail, I get to know about the csound5.07 in the
pro-audio overlay and emerged it.
# As I understand, plugins are installed to /usr/lib/csound/opcodes
not to /usr/local directory. So, your OPCODEDIR has to be set to that
directory. Similarly CSSTRNGS has to be set to '/usr/share/csound/xmg'
# Finally I am able to run Csound in Gentoo!

It would be nice to have these installation notes in the manual too.

Arguably this is a bug in the gentoo scripts: they should set the
DEFAULT_OPCODEDIR (or something like that) macro to the directory where they
will install the opcodes.

I'm very new on Gentoo. Compil is OK but  at home,  compils fails  with
USE=doc.
May be it sounds like a Tex or Latex problem against the manual.

unfortunately this gentoo ebuild is a little buggy. i suspect that ugur is
right about the doc use flag.

i have no experience of the csound install process, so i can't help the
maintainer of the ebuild. the csound manual lacks of detailed installation
instructions from source, so it's very difficult for any linux distribution
developers to make a package.

Hi,
The manual doesn't use Tex or LaTex, but Docbooc-xml. The manual is
not hard to build if you have the tools (it requires xsltproc and for
the pdf version it also requires fop, a java package from apache).
Maybe the ebuild can be fixed with information from the readme file on
the manual's root directory.

Cheers,
Andrés

Hi,
Many thanks for your attention.
I was given a try from your recommendations.
By the way there is a typo in your mail : it's docbook-xml. Don't mind.
Right for Java but not at once.
And then the compil fails yet!
It's not so really important for the manual, (I can download the
fr_manual at Sourceforge)  but mostly for the
examples directory (I think these are included with the docs, aren't ?)
Also I'm a bit curious about Lorris opcodes. (Keep cool, i'm a beginner.)
Below an extract from the end of compil after many Latex's warnings:

media-sound/csound-5.07.0  USE="doc* gui jack java stk_opcodes
(-altivec) -amd64 -debug -dssi -expensive_math -osc_opcodes -portaudio
-ppc64 -static" 0 kB [1]

It isn't a problem for the Gentoo's developpers because it's an unstable
ebuild but, perhaps, this information is useful.

Ah, I understand now. It seems the gentoo ebuild is set up to build
the API documentation which was generated by doxygen. The manual is
another story, it's in its own module, and doesn't use latex. You
build the manual using make html or make pdf.

Cheers,
Andrés
