getting startedI have ordered a package at Cell-idea and trying to get started:
Package received: T80 with 5 SD-cards Via email received: - the user manual (not really giving info on NFC) - extensions_jsr257_share.jar - JSR257 with Extensions - BenQ Integration Guide-02d.pdf - SiritNFCControl.jar I have the same effect as Geri-m: even when enabling the Tag detection --> no reaction from phone when putting the JARs on an SD-card, and trying to start those, it misses the JAD-files. I would advise to have a couple of pages of getting-started-on-T80-NFC steps: what are the steps to just get an ID from a MIFARE-card read; what are the steps for fi reading and writing a vCard to a tag, ... Is there some getting-started doc available? Thanks, Karel. |

Re: getting startedHi Karel,
The T80 does not implements a full proprietary NFC libraries, but the standard NFC libraries, so you can download the standard JSR257 manual located in http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=257 and that includes the javadocs as well. The files that we have sent to you completes the standard manual showing how to manually activate and to deactivate the NFC capabilities of the T80. Check the standard JSR257 documentation because how to get an ID from a MIFARE-card is already specified there. About how to read and to write a vCard, that is only like you read and write other kind of tags, but put the RecordType as MIME and put the id with the string "text/x-vCard". If you are making the same with calendar notes, that string is just "text/x-vCalendar ". This all is documented in the JSR257 docs too. About the issue of "no reaction from phone when putting the JARs on an SD-card", we are going to forward this problem to BenQ. What version of the JavaVM do you have? June 20th we got a new version. If you have older, please send to us an email and we are going to indicate how to get the new version. Best regards, Jose ![]() |

Re: getting startedHi Jose,
Thanks for the info. I have several java-appls (JSR257) available/developed on other phones, but first wanted to check the T80 itself with an example application to get started. Only then, I do the next step of porting my appls. to the T80. The VCard I tried is NFC compliant (NDEF/MIME-type, etc...),. It works on other phones/PC-appls. But the T80 simply does not react at all to any card. Still need to find out how to check the JavaVM-version. I have received the phone on June 6th. The Image version is NFCDebug_080407_01_BenQ_TW_E21_LPR4_NFC_SHIP_LOG (build date April 1st 2008) Kind regards, Karel. |

Re: getting startedHi Karel,
About the vCard application, I have developed my own vCard reader and it works with the T80, reading truly vCard tags (I mean, made in a factory). The Nokia 6131 already brings one by default. Is the problem read the content of the tags or decoding the received vCard? For checking the version of the JavaVM, open it and select the option "About" from the "Menu" in the screen where all installed widgets appear. For instance, the BenQ T80 I have now says in the last line "Build number: v3.3.4, 20080609a". This is the newest one. We have sent to everybody an email with the instructions for update the T80, can you help us sending to contact _AT_ toro-asia _DOT_ com an email telling us who bought the T80 you that got in order to check if we missed to send to you that email? Thanks! Cheers! Jose ![]() |

Re: getting startedHi Jose,
My JavaVM-version is V3.3.4, 20080429a I have received an email about the updates. It is the doc "Steps of setting BenQ T80" and suggests to download the USB Driver zip. & E21DTDL Tool . I started downloading yesterday and now have the RAR-file unpacked. When I start the E21DTDownloadTool.exe it gives a small window as attached I searched on Google for this dll, but not found. The application still starts, but then it does not properly find images See below some screenshots. Also it is not very clear what to do with the USB-driver files. when connecting the phone, my windows XP simple recognizes as a networking-device. I tried to replace with the new USB-driver, but that did not work. The VCard: the phone does not react on any MIFARE-card. Simply no reaction. Thanks, Karel. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: getting startedHi Karel,
Did you received the instructions about how to use that tool to update the T80 with the email? You will no find that DLL in Google because it looks you have not properly installed the drivers. About the vCard issue, can you paste here your code? to check what thing could be missing. Cheers! Jose ![]() |

Re: getting startedHi Jose
When ordering the phone, I received from Toro-asia - english manual - zip file with "documentation & libraries of T80" I have 2 update-emails from Toro-asia - 20080624: SiritNFCControl.jar - 20080625: Steps of setting BenQ T80.docx where I followed the instructions. Regarding the VCard: I have no applet. Just expect the phone to react... Please drop this discvussion for now and let's focus on the update and the reaction of the phone to presentating a MIFARE-tag. Kind regards, Karel. |

Re: getting startedHi Karel,
I have said in a previous post, the phone comes without any default vCard reader, it must be implemented. Nokia's brings one because they wanted, this is not a NFC feature at all. No default manager for any kind of tags comes with the T80. The "20080625: Steps of setting BenQ T80.docx" is the manual to must to follow to update the T80. Check that before to use the firmware writer, the driver must to be installed. Following the instructions there, on plug the USB cable, Windows detects the phone as an special device and ask you for the drivers. That is the content of USB_drivers.zip, but you can also find a copy of that driver in the folder of the writer. We have found that some Windows have problems to detect correctly the phone despite of the driver has been installed. Please check it after reboot the computer or check with other computer or USB port. Best regards, Jose ![]() |

Re: getting startedHey,
I would like to add, that driver doesn't work on 64-bit Windows OS. I managed to upgarde to firmware on the 4th computer I tried it on and they are all using Windows XP professional, although 2 of them have 64-bit Windows. Samo |

Re: getting startedHi
The PC I use is regular 32-bit. I have now also tried on a second PC, but similar effect. So: Dell Lattitude D610 and Dell optiplex 755, both have WinXP SP2. The strange thing is that the device only reports as windows mobile device. ![]() If I manually try to replace the driver, it does not accept. ![]() Thanks, Karel. |

Re: getting startedHi Karel,
Just wondering if that device appears because you have not installed the Microsoft ActiveSync yet in that computer. When the BenQ T80 enters in firmware-can-be-written mode, it is detected as a device called "Neptune". In that moment, the file BenQE21Ser.inf is the descriptor for installing the correct driver. After installation, you are able to use the application to update its firmware. Cheers! Jose ![]() |

|
Re: getting startedThis is what should appear in the installed hardware when the BenQ T80 is in firmware-can-be-written mode.

Re: getting startedIn the picture of the E21DTDownloadTool, please notice that the fields MSIPL, BDTL0, and OS are empty. When you paste the folder in "Easy Download" section, press "Set Images" button to fill the missing fields and try again.

Re: getting startedJose,
Yes active sync is installed on both PCs. It could be that my procedure of starting the device in firmware-can-be-written-mode is wrong? I tried this: 1) phone is power down. 2) push the 0-button and keep pushed 3) connect the USB-cable 4) release the 0-button 5) power up phone and also I tried this: 1) phone is power up. 2) push the 0-button and keep pushed (a + appears because the phone thinks I am dialing) 3) connect the USB-cable 4) release the 0-button Both have the same effect. Thanks, Karel. |

Re: getting startedHi Karel,
I checked your steps and I am going to add what was missing and correct what was wrong 1) phone is power down. 2) Remove battery <-- 3) Plug again the battery <-- 4) push the 0-button and keep pushed 5) connect the USB-cable 6) Wait -> The led brinks once, turned off, and starts to brink faster in red <-- 7) release the 0-button. 8) NO power up phone because now it is in firmware-can-be-written mode now <-- 9) Open the E21DTDownloadTool <-- 10) Select the correct folder <-- 11) Upload the firmware and wait until it is done <-- 12) Unplug the USB cable and the battery <-- 13) Plug again the battery and turn on the mobile <-- I hope it is going to work better now. Cheers! ![]() |

Re: getting startedJose,
waauw... great steps forward today: 1) I discovered that the file E21DTDLTool_V1.000_IMG_Driver.rar after unpacking was having only having 2MB... so I re-downloaded from the ftp-site and that solved the image-files-selection 2) The detailed steps helped out. It was still difiicult to get it done. I think between steps 3 and 4 it is best to wait some time So the firmware is updated now. Next step is to get the NFC-functionality to work. Is there a sample application available? I keep you updated! Thanks, Karel. |

Re: getting startedHi Karel,
I am happy you finally solved this problem :-) The manual from Sirit comes with some sample code but not full MIDlets. The same in the Javadocs. I can help you if you are going to program one by yourself. Remember call the static method... com.sirit.nfc.Hardware.NFCRequestEnabledADD(true); ... to activate the NFC capabilities. Otherwise, the NFC chip will remain sleeping to save battery. Cheers! Jose ![]() |

Re: getting startedHi Jose,
OK I will now start adapting my eclipse environment to build the java-apps... enough info on the docs to get started on this. If problems, I will discuss in another thread of this forum. One more thing: my phone does still not react to any NFC-card. The RF-Tag detect function is ON. According to the user manual, the phone should vibrate when presenting a card, but it does not. I presented MIFARE 1k, 4k and MIFARE DESFire, but the phone does not react. Thanks, Karel. |

Re: getting startedHi Karel,
That manual is still a draft, and some mistakes are still present. Finally, the mobile will react vibrating and making something if MIDlet is present and it can manage the tag, if not, it will not make anything, neither like Nokia showing a error message if it cannot manage that tag.
