gstreamer alternative ?

Hi all:

While compiling phonon and other KDE multimedia components, i
noticed the gstreamer dependency and the associated
g-slave-load-install.

This was not the case with KDE 3.5.x series.

Is there a way to configure KDE multimedia that it can bypass
'gstreamer' and get to use ALSA directly ?
