gtranslator on lpia hardy

Hi there,

I'm trying to install last version available for gtranslator in my
laptop. I have a lpia architecture (mini dell 12") with hardy heron
installed. I have tried this backport, but it seems to be related to
karmic, not hardy:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/lpia/gtranslator/1.9.5-1ubuntu2

Is any way there to get a pre-compiled package of gtranslator 1.9 for my
kind of system?

Thanks in advance,
amaneiro

Hi,

Andrés, a few months ago I built gtranslator 1.9.5 and made it available
in my ppa. However I did not test the hardy package for any architecture
and I never tried it in jaunty in lpia. If you want to give it a try
here's the link:

https://launchpad.net/~amrlima/+archive/ppa

Cheers,

António Lima

When I try to install the package I get an error due to unsatisfied
dependencies. Some of packages are a lower version than required and
other ones aren't availables from my SO.

Any idea about what to do next? - apart from updating my SO obviously :)

best,
amaneiro

I would say "update your OS" :). hardy has very old packages no. You
wold need back-ported versions of the lower versions packages and to
build the dependencies not available in hardy. There *might* be some
dependencies which has been back-ported (have you the backports
repository activated?) and there might be other's that are available in
other ppa's.

You could try to search but I admit it's hard work!

Good luck!

Cheers

which backports repositories do you mean?

I have searched some ppa out there but it seems that there is no option
available for my specific case.

Just to let you know. The reason I'd rather not to update my OS is that
my laptop uses the hardy version maintained by Dell, which is different
of Hardy maintain by Ubuntu.

Although I know that I will have to update someday (because I don't like
at all the "special hardy" Dell has packaged with my laptop), in the
meanwhile I'd rather find other solution.

Thanks anyway for your help :)

best,
amaneiro

availabe in dell repositories.

Sorry I can't help you further.

Anyway, I'm sure more recente ubuntu releases support well dell
laptops.

If you have enough disk space you can always setup a virtual machine and
install jaunty to try gtranslator :)

Cheers,

António Lima
