gv 3.6.7 compilation failure Solaris 9, no strtold()

Using gcc 3.4.6 on a fully patched Solaris 9 Sparc machine, gv 3.6.7
fails with:

Undefined               first referenced
 symbol                     in file
strtold                             secscanf.o
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to gv
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
gmake[2]: *** [gv] Error 1
gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/stat/src/gv/gv-3.6.7/src'
gmake[1]: *** [all] Error 2
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/stat/src/gv/gv-3.6.7/src'
gmake: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

Solaris 9 does not have strtold().  gv 3.6.5 compiled fine.
