heavyHi Steven,
i have a fairly fast computer running XP. I use WinXoundNet for trying out single instruments and paste it in Blue if they please me. But in Blue the same instrument gives a significant increase in the CPU resources. This goes from 3 - 5% in WinXoundNet to 50% in Blue playing the same instrument. I have the impression it has to do with the time pointer in Blue. The standard Time Pointer Animation Rate = 20, but when i lower it to 1 i see the load on the CPU of 6 - 7% on this particular instrument. A big difference. And more power can be used by Csound of course. Do you think that in Blue2 some form of time-pointing could be used that isn't that hungry? greetings, Menno |

Re: heavyHi Menno,
Thanks for identifying this performance issue. I think blue2 will have the same issue as I will be reusing code here, but by identifying the issue I had not really known about it gives me something to work on. Please file this as a bug and I will address when I can. Just an update: I am currently working on getting the score component updated for blue2, and this will likely be the most complicated part of the transition to Netbeans. I think today I have figured out a way to move ahead with something I was stuck on, but still will take a little time. My current plan is to finish the move to blue2 by the time the Linux Audio Conference comes around in April. Hopefully it will not take so long, but I'm sure I'll need some help for a beta testing period. This pointer issue would definitely be something I'd like to address before blue2 is out. Also, were you using the API? I'm wondering if there is a difference in performance to use the API or not, as they use different mechanisms for getting the time from Csound. Thanks! steven p.s. - Is anyone here planning on going to the LAC? I have a piece accepted and paper I'll be doing with Jan Jacob, and would love to see everyone there. :) On Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 3:46 AM, menno <nabob_cd@...> wrote: > > Hi Steven, > > i have a fairly fast computer running XP. heavyAllright, i will file the bug. If the yellow moving line costs that much, i will be content with just seeing the playtime counter:) No, there seem to be no noticable difference on the load of the CPU when using the API or not. I'd love to go but i will not. I can go to a LAC when it is in Berlin because i know somebody living there so i have a place to stay, but the number of Italians i know is very limited i'm afraid. I will be seeing the LAC streaming on my computer, last year it was in a good quality because the speaker himself had a microphone and it was very possible to follow the presentations. Hope it is that well this year too. Good luck with your presentation, see you Menno |
