How do I make a forum (or a parent forum) read-only?

There are two reasons for making a forum read-only. One is to disallow new posts. The other is to make a parent forum read-only, thus forcing users to go down to child forums to post. Users can browse all posts from the parent level but have to drill down to a child forum to post. This forces a user to place his post into an appropriate category.

How can I make a forum read only?

  1. Go to the forum that you want to make "read only."
  2. Click "Edit this Forum."
  3. Check "Make this forum read-only." (Depending on your screen size, you may have to scroll down to find this option.)
  4. Type a reason for making the forum "read-only."
  5. Click Save Changes.
