I used knoda but I have not used (because I do another job) for a quite
long time. I don't know what people is using, etc.

Since you are probably are from UK (domain name), one thing would be if
someone from here:

would like to do a Python knoda. I mean, develop something, they get
payed, get promotion, etc. it's just an idea. They do Pyqt so maybe they
want to do it. No idea, just a thought.

What re you doing now Knoda doesn't work on Qt4?

Just wondering what you folks are doing now Knoda is dying? I am slowly
migrating to a KDE4 based machine and Knoda is no longer available which
is really sad.

I have had a go at trying to migrate it to a Qt4 application, but I just
don't have the skills to do it. I've even tried a simple program with
the hk_classes on Mandriva 2010 with qt-creator, but can't even get it
to compile properly with hk_classes.h.

Are there any people out there who would be interested in a joint
effort to get a KDE4 Qt4 based version going.

The hk_classes AFAIK aren't Qt dependent, so if we could work out how to
get to compile with qt-creator I reckon it would be doable. It does need
other people with C++/Qt ability and/or enthusiasm though.

I could possible look at a different app (there isn't much choice) but I
would hate to lose my python scripts and have to learn mysql which is so
arcane!

There are some nice database front ending building examples in the Qt3
Bruce Perens book, and a friend knocked up a simple mysql frontend
program with little effort on the old Qt3 KDevelop.

All in all, it's possible I believe, if there was enough joint willpower.

To-day upgrade installed again the bugged version, which I had to uninstall, and reinstall the older one.

and I had to uninstall it and reverse to the 8.3.4

I posted about that in the bug system, requesting that the bug be no langer considered as solved.

it took some time, but I found it

hk_this.datasource().delete_actualrow(0)

deletes a row (if the source is a table) without message....just put 1 to have an advertisement before deleting.

I found the answer by browsing
delete_actualrow
where it seems that any implemented function is reported, even if it doesn't appear in the handbook

there is also a function
delete_rows

are not recognized....

I googled about the topic, and found however that the function has a 
source ? in

Synaptic updated them some days ago to the versions fitted to KDE

Whilst open office base has many good features it does not appear to be
able to present a user interface, form, that is pleasing to the eye -

There are some other features that knoda excels at but my database
cannot remember what they are at the moment. As I vaguely recall it was
a feature of drop down boxes where knoda has a selection option that you
can put in when you are creating the form but for open office it
involves writing a macro.

Unfortunately, I've found no solution except yours....
It would be nice to find someone able to look at the code to update it ;
I don't understand why knoda, that is a very good frontend with features
that are nowhere else in linux world, is left without noone to maintain it.

I think that it is fair to say that there are still readers. If they
can be of help to you I am sure that they will.
The fact that I am a fan of Mysql is not of use to you.
The fact that Mysql in Open Office Base and Knoda sometimes causes
complaints about date formats may be of use to you.
Don't be shy about sharing your difficulties - you will find that Knodas
tutorials are amazingly thorough.

Well, after exporting from MSAccess to MySQL I was able to fix the error of bigint vs AutoIncrement. However, the PostGreSQL program (PgAdmin3) does not allow me to fix the problem after exporting. Needless to say, since PostGreSQL is my favorite RDBMS for Linux, this is a huge inconvenience for me. I'm not sure if libhk-classes_mdb includes the ability to sense the difference between AutoIncrement fields and regular bigint fields. In any case some more work is required to get this feature working.

Hello again,

I found the answer already to the combobox question. Moving on again. I was able to add the .mdb driver to the list of database types that Knoda understands. Then I opened up a .mdb file and tried to export it into PostGreSQL. Unfortunately, while the first field in every Access table is "AutoIncrement", the finished field in PostGreSQL is of type "bigint" and not "bigserial" or even "serial" as desired. OK, so I figured that I could modify the tables after exporting, but then the field order is all wrong. So then I thought maybe there's a way to modify the table in Access before exporting and still recover the relationships between tables...but after some thought I gave up on that idea. So really the solution is to correctly export from Access to PostGreSQL or MySQL with the correct datatype in the resultant export. Any idea when this might become a reality?

OK, nevermind. I discovered that subforms are not a requirement as they are in MSAccess. I used a simple grid object and solved the problem. However, now I would like to customize the grid object to include a combobox in one of the fields. Any ideas?

I've been experimenting with the Knoda IDE and trying to discover how to get a subform with a grid object on it to limit the records displayed according to the parent form's current record. In the process I've discovered the 3 fields in the datasource editing window called "Depending", "MasterField", and "ThisField" as well as the double headed arrow that moves the information into the pane on the right. However, all of my attempts so far have resulted in a grid that remains independent of the current record on the parent form. Can anyone tell me what is the easiest way to use the Knoda environment to get this job done?

In the settings dialog there are options to store data etc. locally. The
data is stored as sqlite file and you should find your data within

.hk_classes/

Not sure whether my suggestion is going to be quite what you're after,
but I have set my system up whereby my server is running an SQL server
and Knoda connects to this. It [Knoda] then stores all the forms,
scripts etc on the server itself, so when someone signs on from any
remote machine they all have access to my little stock and order system.

When I start Knoda it asks for the host which I just enter as the IP
address of my server. IIRC I had to add users to the SQL database on the
server and created passwords etc, doing it remotely by command line ssh.

Hi all,

I've been playing with Knoda for just a couple of days and was wondering if there is currently any way to use it in a similar fashion to MSAccess when it comes to network operation. In MSAccess you can use two different .mdb files, one for the front end and one for the actual data or "back end". I would really like to have a quick and easy way to "compile" a file that could just be copied to other Linux workstations that would allow each user to automatically connect to a central database over the LAN. But I know nothing about where to look for the files that are created by the Form designer, Report Designer, etc. or about what file formats are used, how to compile them, and all that. Where can I find such information?

Neither kprinter nor lpr works for me. I can't get past
the "Error calling print command."

I looked at it...it says that Configuratio>Options>Printer command is lpr

I'm using kprinter, but I just checked that lpr works fine also

Yes, I'm able to see the reports on screen, just can't
print them. I could print them before I updated to
Mandriva 2009 Spring. I do have Kghostscript installed.

when I changed from Mandriva (into which I had installed Gnome and KDE)
to Ubuntu (Gnome), I was not able to see the reports. I solved by
instaling Kghostview (a KDE component).....so I guess that the reports
we see within Knoda are in fact "kghostview"...If I understand well you
see these reports, but can't print them

As a remark, I never tried to print tables or forms, and was not aware
it was possible...
